He is the heart throb of a million girls. This celebrity son of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan is gradually but surely emerging from the shadows of his father. This sunrise actor has a very promising future in Bollywood.

Abhishek Bachchan was born on 05 February 1976 in Mumbai. How many of us know he was dyslexic? He went to school in Mumbai and Delhi. He did his college from Switzerland and the US. But he was born and brought up for Bollywood. The actor returned to India for a career in Bollywood.

Abhishek Bachchan made his debut in J.P. Dutta's Film Refugee with Kareena Kapoor. The movie was a moderate success. The actor was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Debut. But his celebrity status was not going to help the actor. There was a lull in the career of the actor. In 2000 he did Dhai Akshar Prem Ke and Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya. In 2001 came equally mediocre movies of Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai and Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya. In 2002 Abhishek Bachchan saw moderate success in Om Jai Jagadish which was a multistarrer and Sharaarat.

In 2003 he was nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon. LOC Kargil was also another movie of the year which was noticed. Just when it appeared that Abhishek Bachchan was having problems in his career came Yuva. The movie gave him the first award of Bollywood. He was awarded Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Yuva. Abhishek Bachchan had forced the world to notice him. In the same year came Dhoom. This was a superhit movie with John Abraham, Uday Chopra and actress Esha Deol also in leading roles. Abhishek Bachchan plays a supercop in the movie. Dhoom was loved by the fans and was a great hit. The potential of Abhishek Bachchan could well be gauged with this movie.

By 2005 the actor's career was on an upswing. Bunty Aur Babli was his greatest hit of 2005. This was a story of two thieves, played by Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji, who make it big. The fans loved Abhishek Bachchan in this role. After playing a super cop and an Army Officer he showed his versatility by playing the role of a crook. The movie was a great hit and Abhishek Bachchan was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award. In the same year came Sarkar for which he won the Award for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor. With these two hits Abhishek Bachchan had established his domain very clearly. He also acted in the film Bluffmaster along with Nana Patekar

In 2005 Abhishek Bachchan made a Special appearance in Salaam Namaste. 2006 was to see another hit Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. This movie was a multistarrer with Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta and directed by Karan Johar. It was a great success abroad and did fair collections at home. Abhishek Bachchan was awarded the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in this movie. Thereafter the actor did a spree of special appearances. Most noticeable amongst them was Lage Raho Munna Bhai. Then came Dhoom 2 by Yash Chopra a sequel to Dhoom. By now the fans had fallen in love with the bike and boat chases of the cops and police on the screen. In Dhoom 2 we had super cop Abhishek Bachchan chasing the master thief Hrithik Roshan. The audiences loved the role of the super cop ACP Jai Dixit. Abhishek Bachchan with his superb acting along with Bipasha Basu made the movie a great hit. 2007 movie Jhoom Barabar Jhoom also proved to be great success for him. This film is also starring Preity Zinta, Bobby Deol and Lara Dutta along with Abhishek and produced by son and father Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra. Bunty Aur Babli was the first movie that brought together father Amitabh Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan.

The romance of Abhishek Bachchan with a number of actresses was getting along in the meanwhile. His love life with Karisma Kapoor was well publicized with the couple also announcing their engagement on the 60th birthday of Amitabh Bachchan. But due to various controversies the engagement did not result into their wedding. The actor was rumoured to be dating Model Dipanita Sharma. But finally he married Miss World and Bollywood Superstar Aishwarya Rai. It was one of the biggest weddings of Bollywood but both the families preferred to keep the media at bay. The wedding took place in a private ceremony on 20 April 2007 at Prateeksha, the residence of the Bachchans in Mumbai. Only very close friends and relations attended the ceremony.

Just before his wedding Abhishek Bachchan starred with his then to be wife Aishwarya Rai in Guru. This movie was a super hit and the chemistry between both the actors was well visible on the screen. Guru was a super hit. Abhishek Bachchan was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award. He also did one another movie along with Aishwarya Rai titled 'Kuch Naa Kaho'. Arbaaz Khan played supporting role in this movie along with Satish Shah.

The wedding of Abhishek Bachchan with Aishwarya Rai augurs well for Bollywood. Sarkar Raj, Drona and Dilli 6 are to be released in 2008. Abhishek Bachchan is also known to be doing a world tour with Amitabh Bachchan. Surely the future is very bright for Abhishek Bachchan.
