Bollywood Film Director And Producer Aditya Chopra
Aditya Chopra’s full name is Aditya Yash Chopra. Aditya was born in the year 1971 on May 21st. His father is the legendary and iconic Bollywood film director-producer Yash Chopra who heads the film production company Yash Raj Film that is now an international company and his mother’s name is Pamela Chopra. Aditya’s younger brother is Uday Chopra who is an actor. Soon he too became a film buff, as is the whole of this country, we just simply love watching movies and playing cricket. He learned from watching either his dad’s movies or by viewing other releases. He was and is basically a film fanatic. He would see the movies, find the mistakes that he thought were wrong then would imagine himself correcting those mistakes. There is where he thought that he would get into directing movies, a job that his father had been involved for nearly 50 years. Aditya began his Bollywood career by becoming the assistant director in Yash Raj Film. He assisted his father in some super hits like Chandni released 1989, then Lamhe in 1991 and also in Darr released in 1993. 1995 was the turning part of his life and in many ways for Bollywood cinema too. He directed Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayage, his directorial debut at the age of just 23. Shahrukh Khan, the late Amrish Puri, Kajol and Parmeet played the lead roles. 13 years on this movie is still being screened in a Mumbai theater and ran for ten consecutive years making it the biggest movie in Bollywood history. The movie entered in 500th successive week of screening on May 13th 2005. This kind of success could turn on anyone but he kind off stayed glued to the ground and knew that this was just the beginning of things to come. His next film was another super hit – Dil To Pagal Hai starring Shahrukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor. Aditya was the co-writer and co-producer of this venture. This movie sort of established him as a successful director, producer and writer too. It is none other than Aditya Chopra who should be given full credit of transforming Yash Raj Film for a production house that made one movie in 4-5 years to a production house that today as many as 4-5 releases every year and Yash Raj Film today has it’s own music company – Yash Raj Music. This transformation was in line with the opening up of the India economy; Aditya was at that time foresighted enough to see that foreign companies could with their massive budgets over take his company in no time. In 2000 he directed his 2nd movie by the name of Mohabbatein(starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Uday Chopra, Aishwarya Rai, Jimmy Shergill, Shamita Shetty and Kim Sharma) and again the star cast contained Shahrukh Khan, but it also the Amitabh Bachchan. These two superstars where acting in the same film for the first time ever and probably only a director of Aditya’s class could mange the egos of two such actor in the same movie. The movie also had Aditya’s younger brother Uday acting for the first time. The movie also had the beautiful Aishwarya Rai in the female lead. Since then he has not directed a movie till date though there is a grapevine going in film circles that he will be directing the action thriller Dhoom-3. Then in 2002 he produced Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, the film met with success. Movie Bunty Aur Babli was another hit from Yash raj Films. But a few of his latter projects didn’t fare as well as people would have thought they would. It started with Mujhse Dosti Karoge, then Salaam Namaste, Neal N Nikki and all the way upto Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Aaja Nachle. But in between we all have been treated to some wonderful cinema experience. Movies like Dhoom(starring Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, John Abraham, Esha Deol and Rimi Sen), Hum Tum(starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji and Rishi Kapoor and directed by Kunal Kohli) & Veer-Zaara were 3 consecutive hit from this man and then followed it up with Dhoom 2 and Fanaa. We all look forward to more amazing movies from the young and energtic director-producer-writer-dialouge writer or could we say all in one power house of Bollywood.
