He is cool unassuming and businesslike. He has a pile of National Awards to his credit. Ajay Devgan is one off the most respected stars in Bollywood. He was born in a Bollywood family on 02 April 1969. His father was a stunt choreographer and action director. It is said that the actor used to always accompany his father to the sets and watch stunts being performed. This provided ideal motivation for Ajay Devgan to get into Bollywood. After graduating from Mithibhai College in Mumbai, Ajay Devgan started his career by making video films. Ajay Devgan began his career in 1990 in Phool Aur Kaante. He caught on the image of an Angry Young Man. His towering personality and fiery eyes suited his image well. Phool Aur Kaante went on to be a hit and Ajay Devgan was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Debut in the film. A scene often remembered from the film is Ajay Devgan riding two motorcycles and performing daredevil feats. The stunts in this movie branded Ajay Devgan as a stunt hero.

The actor lived up to his image in subsequent films. He was an action hero in Jigar in 1992, Divyashakti and Sangram(co-starring with Ayesha Julka, Karisma Kapoor, Amrish Puri and more ) in 1993 and Vijaypath was a superb action movie in 1994. These roles reinforced Ajay Devgan as a stunt hero and Bollywood had almost given him up. Just then he acted in Dilwale in 1994 and Naajayaz in 1995 where he plays the character of an illegitimate son of a gangster who becomes an honest cop. His angry young man image was witnessing a gradual change. He was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award for his role in Naajayaz. 1996 saw three movies Jung, Jaan and Diljale.

Ajay Devgan needed an image changeover very badly. It was provided to him by Ishq. This was a lovely comedy in which the chemistry between Ajay Devgan and Kajol was evident on the screen. The songs of this movie are remembered till date. 'Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha followed and did a lot of good to the image of the actor. He next acted in film Zakhm opposite to actress Pooja Bhatt and made by Mahesh Bhatt. Being centered on theme of communal violence the film was highly sensitive. Ajay did a phenomenal job in bringing the mother and son relationship to life on the screen. For his role Ajay Devgan received critical acclaim and the coveted National Film Award for Best Actor and Star Screen Award for the Best Actor. Bollywood had taken a strong notice of his talent.

This was followed by Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam with Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan. In this movie Ajay Devgan plays the husband of Aishwarya Rai who is married to him against her wishes. Human emotions are very beautifully portrayed in this movie. In this stellar role you can notice the strength of character of Ajay Devgan and how he unites his own wife with her erstwhile lover whom she always wanted to marry. Ajay Devgan had finally been recognized as a big star after this movie. Then came Lajja which was again a film well appreciated by critics.

The biography of this great Bollywood actor can never be complete without mentioning two of his films; Company and Legend of Bhagat Singh. Company was based on the underworld and Ajay Devgan played and Underworld Don to the hilt. The Legend of Bhagat Singh was about the freedom struggle of Bhagat Singh and was a very refreshing reminder of the times gone by. Ajay Devgan won the Filmfare Critics Award for the Best Performance in the movie. Closely on its heels came Deewange in which Ajay Devgan plays the villain. He demonstrated how versatile he is by winning the Filmfare Award for the best Villain in Deewangee.

In 2003 he did Bhoot and Gangaajal. In the later he was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award. For the same movie he won the National award for best actor. Good performances and nominations followed in later years. In his personal life the actor is known to have dated many heroines. He married co star Kajol on 24 February 1999. They have a daughter who was born in 2003.

Later years saw equally good performances by the actor. In 2004 he did Khakee and Raincoat. Kaal followed in 2005. For Kaal as well as Khakee he was nominated for the Filmfare Best Villain Award. His most noticeable role thereafter has been Omkara where he plays a village don. Ajay Devgan played a very powerful role in the movie. Cash in 2007 turned out to be a super hit.

For 2008 he has got U Me Aur Hum in which he has Kajol opposite him. Goolmal Returns and Naam are also lined up. The future is very exciting for this Bollywood superstar.
