This Bollywood actor seems to be defying age. Even at 48 he looks as if he has just crossed the teens. His daughter is now a rising star but Anil Kapoor bashes on regardless.

Anil Kapoor was born in Mumbai on 24th December 1959. Being the son of Surinder Kapoor, a producer, Anil Kapoor had Bollywood in his sights right from the beginning. He did his schooling in Mumbai. He was never inclined towards studies. He was a big fan of Raj Kapoor and is known to have watched all his movies as a kid. He tried to join the Film Institute of India but did not clear the entrance test. He then enrolled for acting classes with Roshan Taneja. He took his classes very seriously and could see light at the end on the tunnel. He also studied biographies of Hollywood icons Sophia Loren and Laurence Oliver. The actor took his dancing and singing classes very seriously. His brother Sanjay Kapoor is also a bollywood actor.

Anil Kapoor made his debut in Hamare Tumhare in 1979. Other mediocre movies he did were Shakti and Hum Paanch. But his first big movie was Woh Saat Din with Padmini Kolhapure. The movie was loved by the audiences. It was also a big commercial success. Thereafter Anil Kapoor also acted in some Telgu and Kannada movies.

The next big hit by the actor was Mashal, a Yash Chopra film. A highlight of the film was the actor got a chance to act with Dilip Kumar which was his childhood dream. Mashaal was an outstanding success. Anil Kapoor won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. The hit landed some more roles for the Bollywood actor. Anil Kapoor had arrived. He again did 2 movies with Dilip Kumar and actress Nutan named Meri Jung and Karma both hit films directed by Subhash Ghai. Both the movies were big hits at the box office and established Anil Kapoor as a big star. Then came the film for which Anil Kapoor is still known and loved; Mr India. This movie is still remembered as one of the greatest entertainers of all times. The vanishing tricks of Anil Kapoor, Sridevi's number "Hawa Hawai" and the villain Amrish Puri roaring "Mogambo Khush Hua" is remembered lovingly by Bollywood fans.

By now Anil Kapoor was already a big superstar. 1988 was a very good year for the actor. It saw his teaming up with Madhuri Dixit to make some super hits. Inteqam, Sone Pe Suhaaga and Ram-Avtar were launched in this year. But the greatest hit of the year was Tezaab. This movie became one of the biggest hits of the decades. It is still remembered for the super acting of Munna by Anil Kapoor and the sizzling number "Ek Do Teen" by Madhuri Dixit. Anil Kapoor won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for this hit. The golden era of the actor had just begun. 1989 and 1990 saw quit a few releases by the actor. Abhimanyu, Parinda, Joshilay and Ram Lakhan were some of the movies of 1989. In 1990 Jamai Raja, Amba and Jeevan Ek Sangharsh were seen. All these movies were average grossers. The common man had by now started identifying himself with Anil Kapoor. The later years saw Lamhe. This was an off beat movie for which Anil Kapoor won critical fame. Beta gave him the next big hit and his next Filmfare Award for the Best Actor. His film named Judaai along with Urmilla Matondkar also became very popular.

At this stage Anil Kapoor decided to foray into production. He produced Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja in which he acted as well. The movie flopped at the box office. He acted in a number of other movies. Just when his magic seemed to be waning, in 1994, came 1942: A Love Story. This Bollywood movie was a great musical hit. With Manisha Koirala and Anil Kapoor it weaved a web of magic in the audiences. It is known till date for its songs. This movie restored Anil Kapoor's grip over Bollywood. There after there was no stopping back. 1995 brought Trimurti, and 1996 Loafer. Both were hit movies. 1997 had bigger success in store. Judaai was a hit. But the bigger hit was Virasat. His superb performance in Virasat earned him the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. This was followed by the super success of Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain. No Entry was another hit movie to his credit released in 1995. Anil Kapoor never loosened his grip of Bollywood. He also acted in 2007 Bollywood film "Salaam-e-Ishq", directed by Nikhil Advani and featuring a huge starcast including Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Juhi Chawla, Akshaye Khanna, Ayesha Takia, John Abraham, Vidya Balan, Govinda, Shannon Esra, Sohail Khan and Isha Koppikar in lead roles. Also played leading role in another 2007 bollywood film named "Welcome" along with Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar and Paresh Rawal .

In his personal life the actor has been equally successful. Married to Sunita, a top model of her times, he has two daughters and one son. Sonam Kapoor, his daughter, made a dazzling Bollywood debut in Saawariya. He has been a perfect family man. The innings has just begun for the actor. For Taal he won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. Every year of this decade he has given us a hit. His latest hit is Welcome. Watch out for him in Race and Main Yuvraj and Tashan in 2008.
