Bollywood Actor Arshad Warsi

arshad warsi

Arshad Warsi was born on 19th April, 1968 in Mumbai, India. Unfortunately Arshad’s parents left for heavenly abode when he was just 14. Therefore it is hard to imagine that how a young kid who doesn’t have the means to fend for him could ever pursue studies actively. It is known that he had to struggle to have living in the hardship of a metropolis like Mumbai.

He had a lot of interest in dancing and that’s what basically he knew a little of. He somehow managed to find a place in a dance troop. Then some time later he took part in an English Jazz Dance Competition and was good enough to take home the forth prize and with it some cash as prize too. With the money that he won he started his own dance school in Mumbai itself. During the same time Arshad was associated with Mumbai’s English Theater Group. He was certainly trying his hands at many things but his struggle to earn a decent living continued despite his unending efforts.

During those day Bollywood’s greatest superstar Amitabh Bachchan too was going through a lean phase of his career. Amitabh then announced the opening of his own production company Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL) and for its first project it decided to cast complete new comers. ABCL began searching for new talent and a young man named Chandarchur Singh who hailed from Punjab side was selected to play a lead role in the movie titled ‘Tere Mere Sapne’. It is believed that at the time of passing the screen test Chandrachur was a teacher. Some one might have suggested his name, but Arshad was quite content being a chorographer. He got the offer to be a part of the Bollywood movie which he initially refused as he thought he couldn’t act well; he refused because he thought he had no training to be an accomplished actor. But some how he was destined to act in the movie, one thing after the other happened and finally he gave his nod to doing the movie. And you’ll be surprised that he didn’t even have a screen test done on him. Thereafter as they say – the rest is history.

Tere Mere Sanpe hit the theaters in 1996 and the movie was liked by most and it was deemed to be a hit. Arshad as well as Chandrachur were noticed and they were thought to have a good and fledging Bollywood career ahead of them. But things didn’t turn out to be all that rosy as they were expected to be. Over the next 6 odd years Arshad acted in several movies but none clicked at the box office and all of those resulted in despair for this versatile actor. Starting from Betaabi that was release in 1997 to Hero Hindustani and Mere Do Anmol Ratan. Hogi Pyar Ki Jeet was next with Ajay Devgan, an actor of high repute but that too couldn’t ignite Arshad’s career. All the way up to Jaani Dushman and Jeetenge Hum each of these movies couldn’t find Arshad a Bollywood hit.

That changed when he was in cast in Raju Hirani’s movie ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’. Arshad played the second lead and friend of Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt and actress Gracy Singh. Boman Irani played negative role in this film. Arshad’s character was that of a light hearted goon’s friend who would stick with his friend during his good times and bad times. He would carry out his friend’s orders without thinking of the consequences. Once Munna (Sanjay Dutt) asked Circuit (Arshad Warsi) to arrange for a call dance girl to dance at a medical college to liven up the spirits of a patient. His character was an instant hit and the movie has that year’s biggest grossing movie, giving Arshad his biggest hit of his career and over night made his a Bollywood star to reckon with. Thereafter there was no looking back, hit after hit and all his movies started doing well at the box office. Salaam Namaste produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra in 2005 was another of his recent big hits and it was the first time he was working with the biggest production house in Bollywood – Yash Raj Films. Sexy actress Preity Zinta and actor Saif Ali Khan played the major role in this film. He also worked in another 2005 bollywood film Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? directed by David Dhawan and starring Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Sushmita Sen.

In 1999 Arshad Warsi got married to MTV VJ Maria and she has been by his side at all times. If you ever look at movie awards ceremonies & Bollywood stage shows, she is always there with him irrespective of if he is nominated or winning or not. His Son’s name is Zeke Warsi. Certainly this man has come a long way from when he was struggling to make a living. We salute the spirit of this man.
