Bollywood Movie Cheeni Kum Cheeni Kum is a Bollywood movie directed by well known advertising executive Balkrishnan, and this happened to be his directorial debut and was released in the year 2007. The producer of the movie is Sunil Manchanda while the music director is Iiayaraja, a well-known south Indian music director. The movie’s story was on the old lines of an older aged man falling in love with a woman almost half his age. But this was a rather well made movie that attracted the attention of audiences of all age groups alike. The star cast for this movie was indeed a stellar star and the acting performances in this movie was the prime cause for the movie doing well in India where such subjects are usually rejected and internationally too the movie highly appreciated. Star cast for this movie had in the lead role two of the country’s most versatile actors in Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu and with Paresh Rawal & Zohra Sehgal complete the line up. Paresh Rawal and Zohra Sehgal too happen to be great actors in their own right and thus they way these four have acted in the movie lent the movie the grace and the style that helped it win over audiences. The movie begins in the setting of an Indian restaurant set in London, which claims to be the best London’s best Indian restaurant. The owner of the restaurant happens to be Buddhadev Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan) who also happens to be the head chef of his restaurant name ‘Spice6’. He is a taskmaster and will not tolerate any indiscipline in the kitchen area. Just as he happens to be disciplining his staff on the ways on good cooking senses and tastes for which this restaurants is so celebrated across London should adhered too, in comes a waiter affectionately called Colgate (because of his outward sliding front teeth) carrying back a Hyderabadi Zafrani Pulao. A female guest sent the dish back as she felt that it had extra sugar and she is of the view that such a meat dish should not have sugar content at all. Buddhadev just cannot relate to the fact that someone has disliked a dish that’s been made in his kitchen. He rushes up to the guest holding the dish and vents if they had been in London for the 1st time, how is Zafrani Pulao made at their home & things, the guests get up quietly and leave. The next day another Zafrani Pulao come back into the kitchen, Buddhadev tastes it and raves of how well it is made, Colgate tells him that the guest of the previous had sent it for him to taste, made by Nina Verma (Tabu). Thereafter Buddhadev & Nina keep running into one & another at corners and Buddhadev tries to make up to her. Zohra Sehgal plays Amitabh’s mother in the movie, while Paresh Rawal plays Nina’s father. Soon Buddhadev starts liking Nina and Nina responds with mutual admiration for him, the two are usually playing pranks on each other & at the same time are getting to know each other better. They both kind of know that they are been drawn to one another and both of them are waiting who’s going ask the other out. Nina quite lightly tells him one day that no one’s home so he could come over and ask her out. Buddhadev finally draws the courage to ask her to marry him to which she readily accepts. When she goes to talk to his mother receives a phone call informing her of her father being taken to the hospital. She rushes to Delhi and then asks Buddhadev to come over to Delhi to meet her father and ask for her hand. When he does finally reach Delhi he find Mr. Verma a pleasant person with certain thoughts that are close to his heart. Buddhadev makes many failed attempts to communicate to Mr. Verma of his feeling for his daughter, but once he does tell him know Mr. Verma is aghast and dispels any such possibility. But Buddhadev & Nina too stand on their intent of getting married. Mr. Verma on seeing that the two are inseparable makes a last ditch attempt to have them break up by going on a hunger strike, therein Buddhadev comes and tells Mr. Verma that he is financially sound and mature enough to take good care of his daughter and also has an insurance that will serve Nina well in future and he need to worry. Mr. Verma has to given in and agrees to their relationship. In the last scene Mr. Verma, Nina Verma, Buddhadev and his mother all are sitting together at ‘Spice6’ Restaurant in London happily.
