Bollywood Actor Dharmendra
Dharmendra Deol’s full name is Dharmendra Singh Deol. He was born in Phagwara, Punjab on December 8th, 1935. Dharmendra has two wives and maintains both of them. He got married to his first wife at the tender age of 19 years in 1954. He later married Bollywood actress the immensely beautiful Hema Malini. From his first marriage he has 2 boys and 2 girls. Both his daughters are married and live outside India while his 2 sons are Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol both Bollywood actors of fame. From his marriage to Hema Malini he has two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Esha is a famous Bollywood actress herself but Dharmendra has never approved of her decision. Dharmendra it is said too faced opposition from his parents when he first had the thought of being an actor. He was first noticed in a Filmfare spot-the-talent contest and those present over there really liked him and asked him to come down to Mumbai. His first film was to be ‘Dil Bhi Tera, Hum Bhi Tere’ which was released in 1960. Even during the early phase of his career he was cast opposite the leading ladies of that time though most movies were romantic flicks. He did movies with Nutan, Saira Banu, Mala Sinha, Rekha, Sridevi, Zeenat Aman, Jaya Bachchan among others. He was also fortunate to act with one Indian Cinemas greatest ever actress Meena Kumari and opposite to villains like Amrish Puri, Gulshan Grover, Shakti Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Mohnish Bahl, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Shatrughan Sinha and more. From 1964 to 1966 these two appeared in 4 movies and all were successful. But his most memorable pairing has been with his wife Hema Malini. The two of them appeared in as many as 27 movies together and a very high percentage of these were hits. After each hit the producers would run around them to do another film together. In 1980 film "The Burning Train" he also acted with most beautiful actress Neetu Singh along with Vinod Khanna, Parveen Babi, Jeetendra, Vinod Mehra and more. The records speak for themselves. Dharmendra has acted in more than 225 movies till date, which is mind boggling when you see that most actors today would struggle to act in 50 movies in their entire career. Only Jeetendra has acted in more movies than Dharmendra. Dharmendra is the only actor in Bollywood history whose more than 50 movies have gone on and registered golden jubilee successes. And not only this, he is the second highest all time grossing actor of Bollywood behind Amitabh Bachchan. These facts should give us a fair idea that this man is second to none. He was so handsome and good looking that he is the only Indian male actor apart from current Bollywood actor Salman Khan to be voted one of the most handsome men in the world. This feat took place in the middle of 1970’s when he was at the peak of his career. Dharmendra also launched that career’s of both his sons in Bollywood. He produced ‘Betaab’ for Sunny Deol that proved to be a massive hit and then he produced ‘Barsaat’ for Bobby Deol that achieved average success status at best. This man was so much in demand in the latter stages of this prime career that at a time when his elder son Sunny Deol was working with the leading actresses of Bollywood even Dharmendra was acting with the same actresses as the lead hero. He was also termed – He-Man for his massive masculine body something the actors of his time could only appreciate and dream of having but none came even close to having a body like his. He is so versatile that comedy, tragedy, humor, action all came naturally to him. He did the comic scenes so well that one could term him to be a complete comedian or a specialized comedian. He also acted with young generation actors Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and actress Kajol in the 1998 movie Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya written and directed by Sohail Khan. In 2004 he fought the general elections in India and won from his constituency. In 2007 his home production movie ‘Apne’ released and in the northern parts of India where they are natives of the movie was a super success while it did fruitful business in other parts of India. Apne is a Bollywood film directed by Anil Sharma. For the second time real life father and sons Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol all star together. They starred together in the movie 'DILAGI' earlier. Shilpa Shetty and Katrina Kaif are the female leads. Filming took place in various locations including Chandigarh, Rajkot, Bangkok and Australia, and Toronto, Canada This man will be remembered for a long long time to come. He has scripted his name in golden history of Bollywood and Indian Cinema. There will many more good actors who will grace the Indian film world but none as charismatic and handsome as he is.
