Bollywood Actress Dimple Kapadia
Dimple Kapadia was born on 8th June 1958 to a Gujarati businessman Mr. Chunnibhai Kapadia and her mother’s name is Betty Kapadia. Dimple is the eldest of the 3 sisters in the family while one of her sister’s is actress Simple Kapadia and her other sister Reem Kapadia committed suicide for unknown reason. Dimple has two daughters both of whom are actresses as well, Twinkle and Rinke. Dimple Kapadia’s first Bollywood movie was the 1973 smash hit – Bobby. It was none other than the legendary Raj Kapoor who first cast her in his movie ‘Bobby’ which also happened to be the launch movie for another versatile Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor. Dimple was just sixteen years old at the time when she was cast as the lead heroin. Just six months prior to the release of ‘Bobby’ then superstar Rajesh Khanna married her and she quit acting at that stage. She won the Best Actress Award from Filmfare for this movie. For the next 10 years she was busy taking care of her family and raising her two daughters too. But it is well known that the relationship of Dimple and Rajesh Khanna was not always cordial. After 10 years of marriage, the two separated and Dimple immediately returned to Bollywood. Dimple was just a one movie star and the ex-wife of a Bollywood superstar. In the past ten years Bollywood and the entire world had changed and it was Dimple who had to doing the catching up to survive in the fierce and competitive world of Bollywood films. Lucky for her she again had Rishi Kapoor as her co-star along with Kamal Hassan in the movie ‘Sagar’. The movie had a scene of her showing her completely topless with her hair covering her breasts; in those days this was a highly controversial scene that could have harmed her career. She won the Best Actress Award from Filmfare for this movie. But the it worked superbly for her and the movie turned out to be another successful outing for Dimple and this time she was not leaving in a hurry and as a matter of fact she has been acting ever since. Dimple has starred in many memorable films along side Rishi Kapoor. And after Rishi’s pairing with his wife Neetu Kapoor in many successful films it is his pairing with Dimple that has been so highly successful. Dimple Kapadia was acted in over 65 Bollywood and other Indian language movies and has achieved success in many of those films. Her pairing with Bollywood actor Sunny Deol too has been very successful in films like Arjun. During the later part of the 1980’s and the earlier part of 1990’s Dimple was quite active in the Bollywood scene and had a steady affair with Sunny Deol. But Sunny’s father and Bollywood icon Dharmendra disapproved of their relation as Sunny was already married. Dimple took solace that they were seeing each other frequently and accepted what life had to offer to her. She also starred in the 1986 movie – Janbaaz that was made by actor-producer Feroz Khan. She starred opposite Anil Kapoor in the movie while the cast included Feroz Khan, small appearance from Sridevi and Shakti Kapoor as the villain. In this movie too she has a sensuous scene with Anil Kapoor making love to her in the farms’ stable. This movie too was a super hit and there was no looking back for her. Another notable film of hers’ worth mentioning Ram Lakhan directed by Subhash Ghai that was released in 1989, she was cast opposite Jackie Shroff. It was the biggest hit of that year. For her performance in the movie ‘Rudaali’ she was awarded the Best Actress Award from National Film Award. More lately she has appeared in select movies according to her age and persona. Her performance in the Bollywood flick ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ where she played the role of an alcoholic was much appreciated. She continues to be of the most beautiful older age actress of Bollywood and her charm remains intact.
