Bollywood Actress And choreographer Farah Khan.

Farah Khan was born in the family of filmmaker Karmuddin Khan. She has a younger brother, the famous TV comedian Sajid Khan. Her Mother Menaka is the sister to Honey Irani and Daisy Irani, former child stars, her father Kamran Khan. Farah is related to Javed Akhtar’s ex-wife Honey Irani who is a famous script writer. Farah’s childhood was bleak as her father’s movies flopped and the family was in debt; the family had to sell things in order to survive. Farah was a bright kid in school and would strive hard to top the class as only then would she be rewarded with a film ticket. Ever since her childhood days, Farah had a flair for dancing and would entertain family and friends by performing on old songs. She opened her own dance school while studying in St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai. The song Pehla Nasha was the first song choreographed by Farah Khan in the movie ‘Joh Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ directed by Mansoor Khan and starring Aamir Khan and Ayesha Julka in leading roles. Farah met Shahrukh Khan during her second movie ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’ and the two became good friends.
Farah was a threat to choreographer Saroj Khan and when Saroj walked out of ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, Farah worked on that project and after the success of the movie, Farah was recognized as the number one choreographer in Bollywood. As a choreographer, Farah has some big projects to her credit like ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’, ‘Dil Chatha Hai’, ‘Monsoon Wedding’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’, ‘Kaal’, ‘Krrish’ and ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’. Farah Khan has choreographed for more than hundred songs. She won Filmfare Awards for four out of them. Farah always dreamt of directing a movie and was encouraged by friend Shahrukh to persue it; in 2002, she narrated the script of ‘Main Hoon Na’ to Shahrukh and he not only agreed to act, but also produced the movie.The movie did well in Bollywood. ‘Main Hoon Na’ was Farah’s dedication to the 70’s genre and even though her movie had a soul of that era, the body was undoubtedly in tune with the millennium, which made the movie a runaway success.At the same time Farah became close to editor Shirish Kunder and the two got married on December 9th 2004.
Farah also choreographed for the Broadway musical ‘Bombay Dreams’ for which she has won accolades for her work. Farah has also choreographed Latin Singer Shakira for her performance at the MTV Music Video Awards in which Shakira did Bollywood dance on “Hips Don’t Lie”.
Farah Khan has received so many awards for her choreography, predominantly from Filmfare.In 2004, she got National Film Award for Best Choreography Idhar Chala Main from Koi Mil Gaya. She won the Filmfare Best Choreography Award five times: 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, and 2004.She received Star Screen Award in 2001 for Best Choreography, 2002 Best Choreography, 2004 Best Choreography, 2005 Best Debut Director.
Farah revealed the news of her pregnancy to her friend Shahrukh, who was so excited that he made arrangements for a special bed and a set of chairs for Farah on the sets of the movie so that she can comfortable on the shoots during breaks. It was part time for Farah Khan as the 42-year old choreographer was pregnant and she couldn’t had asked for a more perfect timing as her movie ‘Om Shanti Om’ is on the verge of completion.
In MUMBAI th4e Director Farah Khan gave birth to her triplets on Monday at Mumbai's Jaslok's hospital. She had one son and two daughters. The delivery was done by Caesarian section. Farah Khan's husband Shirish Kunder and some family members were present at the hospital.
The choreographer turned director had a fabulous 2007, with her film, Om Shanti Om, becoming the year's biggest hit of Bollywood. The lucky charm is still hovering over her, this year too.
