Bollywood Actress Gracy Singh

Gracy Singh was born on 20th July, 1980 in New Delhi, India. She is a native of Punjab and her family was a simple and traditional Punjabi family. Right from her schooling days she was very fond and dancing and acting. She liked dancing so much that during her school vacations she would take Bharatnatyam lessons; this was when she was studying at the Manav Sthali School. Once her schooling was completed in the middle half of the 1990’s she became a part of a dance group named "Planets" and also started giving stage performances. While doing all this she would also attend her college where she was completing her Arts graduation. Her life was in the fast lane and she juggled her time between dance performances, studying and also traveled to the metropolis city of Mumbai for some modeling assignments, dance shows & ad films.
If this was not enough then when she was offered to act in a television serial she decided to try that as well. Her audition for starring in TV serial ‘Amanat’ was successful. She did full justice to her role as ‘Dinki’ in Amanat and that brought her a lot of popularity and recognition. That recognition converted into a small break for her in Bollywood films. Though she acted in films like ‘Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain’ & ‘Hu Tu Tu’ but these roles were really inconsequential and the failures of these two movies cannot be attributed to her as she had no chance to turn the direction of the movie’s fate.
However she kept acting in the serial ‘Amanat’ and was notice by director Ashutosh Gowarikar who was looking to cast a fresh face in his upcoming movie ‘Lagan’. He called her up for an audition and during the audition he was impressed by her gentleness and her subtle voice. He gave her the role of ‘Gauri’ and the rest is as they say – history. The movie was a blockbuster and an all time top grosser. Since it was her first full length Bollywood movie the movie qualified as being her debut movie. She won the Best Female Debutant Award at the Zee Cine Awards in 2001. The movie though had many more landmarks to achieve and Lagan which was produced by Aamir Khan went all the way to being nominated for the Oscars in the Best Foreign Film category. Her charm, simplicity and beautiful eyes made her one of the most promising new actresses of Bollywood.
Thereafter producers wanted her to star in their movie projects immediately, which is the case with most producers. They will pick you up after every success of yours and dump you down the drain after your next flop. Gracy had to make the right choices of the films being offered to her. In 2003 she had three releases namely ‘Gangajaal’, ‘Armaan’ & ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’. In 'Armaan' she acted with leading bollywood actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Preity Zinta, and old generation actor Randhir Kapoor. Munna Bhai MBBS proved to be the biggest hit of that year and Gracy played to role of a budding doctor doing her internship at a medical college where her father is the dean. The lead actor Sanjay Dutt (name – Munna Bhai in the film) falls in love with her and takes admission to gain her love. He plays the role of an adorable goon in the movie and has some really interesting happy go lucky fundas in the movie. Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani also played a major role in this movie.
But of the other two ‘Gang ajaal’ was a decent success and Armaan went unnoticed. Thereafter a spate of her releases flopped at the box office and she was never able to achieve the kind of success her initial releases were able to garner. She though isn’t deterred by her failures and she not going to quit acting just because she hasn’t delivered the goods as expected by Bollywood, she is hear to act and is a thorough professional.
Now it is to be judged by her fans that they like a populist Bollywood actress or an actress who knows how to act. In the old days people would say that you are born an actor but then why would we need acting schools at all, get up from the baby cot, have a glass full of milk and start acting!
