Bollywood Actress Juhi Chawla

She is a former beauty queen who also achieved immense success in the Indian Film Industry. She is the eldest in her family and was born in the Northern Indian state of Punjab in the city of Ludhiana on November 13th 1967. Her father, Mr. S Chawla is a doctor by profession from Punjab, while her mother Mrs. Mona is from neighboring Gujarat. Not long ago she was the undisputed queen of Hindi films but make no mistake that she isn’t one bit less charming and bubbly even today.
Juhi started her schooling from J.J. Montessori primary school, Bombay and then she attended Convent of Jesus & Mary. Thereafter she started her career by performing the role of Mala in Mala Meri Jaan at her school. She completed her graduation from the prestigious Sydenham College which was established in the year 1913 and TIME Magazine rated this college as the "Best Commerce College on East side of the Suez".
Initially she tried her hand with some modeling assignments and also played a part in a TV commercial for Rich Instant Coffee. But somehow she was destined for something bigger and better. In many terms she was the most successful Indian female actress who also won the leading beauty contest in India – the Miss India pageant. She won the ultimate prize in the Indian beauty pageants the – Miss India title in 1984. She then went on to represent India at the Miss Universe contest and won the award for BEST COMTUME which would have been a proud moment for her and the entire nation. Only Zeenat Aman can claim to have achieved moderate to good success in her acting career but apart from Zeenat its just Juhi Chawla who can claim to have tasted success in both the fields though Juhi was not very inclined towards modeling. Her first Hindi movie release was ‘sultanat’ in 1986, but that movie didn’t fare well and no one actually even noticed her.
Then came Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT) it turned out to be the launching for 2 next generation super stars, one being Juhi Chawla and the other being none other than Aamir Khan. The innocent and bubbly looks of Juhi Chawla had the audiences floking the theaters and the emotional melo-dramatic script of the movies made the romantic story of the biggest movie grossers of it’s time. Thereafter movies like Bol Radha Bol with Rishi Kapoor, Dar and Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman with super star Shahrukh Khan and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke directed by Mahesh Bhatt again with Aamir Khan made her the leading lady of the industry and darling of the crowds. All together she acted in nearly 70 commercial Hindi movies and even today she can be seen in a few movies. She also acted in 1997 hit movie Deewana
Mastana directed by David Dhawan.
Today is has moved on and prefers to be a part of the parallel or independent cinema. Since the advent of the 2000’s she has mostly appeared in such movies and in between also made guest appearance in the main stream Hindi movies. She has also ventured into film production but unfortunately she hasn’t met with the same kind of success though her work in parallel cinema continues to be high appreciated. Her recent releases include My Brother Nikhil in 2005, also in 2005 was 7 ½ phere and 3 deewarein which was released in 2003 and for which she won the Best Actress Award in a supporting role at the Star Screen Awards.
From beauty contests, she moved into film - with her movie debut being Sultanat in 1986. She then starred in the Kannada film Premaloka which was a super-hit. She also featured in "Goonj" with Kumar Gaurav. Her first big hit in Bollywood was Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988, in which she starred with Aamir Khan. Following films did not do as well.
Chawla made a special appearance in the film Chandni (1989) produced by Yash Raj Films. She was later cast in the critically acclaimed Aaina (1993) opposite Jackie Shroff, and then in one of her biggest hits Darr (1993) with Sunny Deol and Shahrukh Khan.
She won the Filmfare Best Actress Award in 1993 for Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke . Her pairing with Aamir Khan has been repeatedly successful with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1989), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) [6] and later on Ishq (1997) becoming hits.
She has teamed up successfully with Shahrukh Khan too, delivering his first big hit Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992) and then later on with Darr (1993) and Yes Boss (1997).
She has produced films like Asoka and Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hisdustani both of which proved to be box failures. Her third attempt proved to be fruitful, Chalte Chalte starring Shahrukh Khan brought her good fortune. Her forthcoming release will see her star beside Shahrukh Khan once again along with Amitabh Bachchan in Ravi Chopra’s Boothnath and then there’s Krazy 4 starring the versatile actor Arshad Warsi. So fans of Juhi Chawla have a lot to look forward this year and with every movie she does she proves she hasn’t lost any of her previous golden touch and the energy she has is awesome.
Juhi got married to industrialist Jai Mehta and has two lovely kids. Another thing that is so special about her is that during the entire span of her prime career she has never been reported or as true fans would like to believe involved in any extra material affairs or has been linked to fellow artist which in today’s time is highly commendable to say the least.
