Glamour, opulence and big stars are the three favorites of Karan Johar. A successful writer, director and a TV Host, Karan Johar has cast a spell on Bollywood right from his debut. Karan Johar was born on 25 May 1972 in Mumbai. He is the son of late Yash Johar. He studied in the Greenlawns High School and went to H. R. College in Mumbai. Karan later went to France for his education and completed a Masters Degree. He would have settled in Paris, had he not had the attraction of Bollywood. He returned to run the Dharma Productions, a company founded by his father. Thus began the Karan Johar era. Very few of us would know that Karan Johar has acted in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. He also assisted Aditya Chopra in directing the film and selecting costumes for Shahrukh Khan. His association with Shahrukh Khan has moved from strength to strength thereafter. Karan Johar made his debut as a director with 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' with Nikhil Advani as an associate director and produced by Yash Chopra. The K word is the trade mark of Karan Johar. He is said to believe that all movies starting with K alphabet will do well for him. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was a great love story about old college friends who meet each other again in life in changed circumstances. The film also stars Rani Mukerji, Anupam Kher, and Salman Khan and actress Neelam in special appearance. With this movie there were a lot of expectations from Karan Johar He was already being compared to Aditya Chopra as a director. Thus it was a make or break for Karan Johar. The film surpassed its expectations. The songs were brilliant, the cinematography awesome. The sets were gorgeous and Farah Khan's choreography was superb. Karan Johar made the most impressive debut ever as a director. The movie swept Filmfare Awards as never before. The movie also re united the team of Kajol and Shahrukh Khan. His second film again had a lot of expectations. Kabhi Khushi kabhi Gam was to be a movie which will give the audience an opportunity to float through emotions of happiness and sorrow. The starcast was so heavy and the promos so good that tremendous excitement built up before the release of the movie. The movie did live upto its expectations. All the top film stars of bollywood acted in the movie including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Kajol, Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Johnny Lever and more. Karan Johar handled the emotional scenes magically with many scenes leaving a lasting impression. He made the audiences cry and laugh in alternate bouts living up even to the title of the movie translated in English. With two mega hits Karan Johar was fully established and there was no looking back. He went a step ahead to produce Kal Ho Na Ho. A Karan Johar production, the movie was directed by his Associate Director Nikhil Advani. Karan Johar also wrote the screenplay for the film. The star cast was again huge with the female lead changing to Preity Zinta. The movie was an emotional roller coaster. The producer director combination gave a flawless movie. The combination of humour with emotions was perfect. Even the critics said that it is impossible to create a better movie. Shot in New York, and with such a powerful starcast, Kal Ho Na Ho is certainly one of the best movies produced ever. By now Karan Johar was a household name and a favourite of men and women of all ages. Karan Johar took on an even bolder theme in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, the sanctity of marriages. He was at his best again in creating a frenzy before the movie. The boldness of the theme made it a gamble. Bollywood audiences can be quite sensitive to themes like extra marital relations. But Karan Johar was at his best yet again. The only difference this time was that Kabhi Alvida No Kahana was not a typical family movie. The film was a big hit with audiences abroad appreciating it more. Karan Johar is also a very popular anchor on the television. His chat show “Koffee with Karan” is aired on Star World. Most Bollywood stars have featured on the show and had a chat with Karan Johar. This show has made the links of Karan Johar with Bollywood even stronger. Karan Johar has been quite mysterious in his personal life. There are rumours that he is gay. He has also been linked to Ekta Kapoor. He has said that they both share much more in common than the K word. He is acting in a future Ekta Kapoor film where he does a cameo. He conducts the KBC show in the movie named C Company. His relationship with Shahrukh Khan is well known. He still selects his costumes for Bollywood movies. He is also an excellent compere and has conducted large number of Awards Ceremonies. He has delivered a talk at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. The future is very bright for this great director.
