Bollywood Actress Kareena Kapoor
Born in the Kapoor Family, on 21st September 1980, daughter of Bollywood actor Randhir Kapoor and the lovely actress Babita, Kareena Kapoor was destined to be a great star right from birth. She was preceded by her elder sister Karisma Kapoor, who had already dazzled the Bollywood with her beauty and charm. Kareena had a great lead over her peers due to sheer pedigree. Yet all was not well in the silver citadel of Kareena Kapoor. The Kapoors were traditionally known for not permitting the ladies in the family to act. This caused a serious rift between Babita and Randhir Kapoor. The two fell out. The responsibility to bring up the daughters was taken on by Babita. She did odd jobs to raise her two daughters. Rishi Kapoor is the paternal uncle of Kareena Kapoor who inspired her a lot. Kareena Kapoor went to school in Mumbai and later Dehradun. After joining the commerce stream at Mithibai College, Mumbai, she also did a three-month course at Harvard in microcomputers. Kareena Kapoor also went to Law College in Mumbai before taking acting classes under Kishor Namit Kapoor. Kareena Kapoor was actually to be launched in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai with Hrithik Roshan. She abandoned the movie after working for some days. Now she says that the movie was primarily to launch Hrithik Roshan and it was a male predominant movie. She made her debut along with Abhishek Bachchan in Refugee. Her Venus like beauty and striking personality was very well appreciated giving her the first Filmfare Award of her career as the best female debutant. The movie was also a big hit. Bollywood had welcomed the new face with open arms. The period of 2001 to 2003 was to prove one of the best periods of her still fledgling career. Kareena Kapoor’s next major hit was Satish Kaushik's Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai opposite Jeetendra’s son, Tusshar Kapoor. Her later films of the period did not do too well at the box office. Asoka, too was a mediocre grosser but Kareena Kapoor won accolades for her acting. She received a nomination for Filmfare Best Actress Award. The movie that really gave her the Bollywood Hot Babe image was Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham(starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor herself, Alok Nath and more). The movie was a super hit. Kareena Kapoor’s image skyrocketed after having acted with so many mega stars. Her image abroad was mainly developed by this movie. Just when the big moments of her career seem to have finally arrived she went through a slump. Mujhse Dosti Karoge!, Jeena Sirf Merre Liye, Talaash: The Hunt Begins and Khushi were some of the movies which did not do too well. Some movies did average business abroad. Critics had already written off Kareena Kapoor as a dumb and beautiful doll who could not act. Thereafter Kareena Kapoor decided to act with different directors. Kareena Kapoor required to get out of her stereo type image. She silenced her critics by giving a stunning performance in Chameli. In this movie the actress plays the role of a prostitute. So striking was her role that she won a Filmfare Special Performance Award for it. Her role in this movie has been compared with Bollywood’s great actresses like Nargis in Mehboob Khan's Mother India, Meena Kumari in Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Shabana Azmi in the emotional movie Arth. Dev, gave he another good movie. She played the role of a girl affected by riots. Her role in this film earned her a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. She also played a negative role in Fida. The actress Kareena Kapoor was now in full bloom. She was also appreciated by the BBC in romantic drama Kyon Ki opposite Salman Khanand other actors and actresses like Rimi Sen, Jackie Shroff, Om Puri and Sunil Shetty . 2006 proved to be an equally eventful year which commenced with 36 China Town . However her greatest success was Omkara. She plays the role of a village daughter in law. She co-starred with acting greats like Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi and Konkona Sen Sharma. Her performance earned her first Star Screen Award under the Best Actress category and the Filmfare Critics Award for the Best Actress. She also did an item number in Farhan Akhtar's Don - The Chase Begins Again. However the best of Kareena Kapoor was Jab We Met along with her then boy friend Shahid Kapoor. The movie is a beautiful love story and was relished by Bollywood audiences. Kareena Kapoor played the role of a young Sikh girl which mesmerized everybody. The actress won her first Filmfare Best Actress Award for her stupendous role in this movie. Kareena Kapoor has been very much talked of in Bollywood. She was in a serious romance with her Jab We Met co star Shahid Kapoor. These days she is dating Saif Ali Khan. This is the hottest topic in Bollywood today. After achieving superstar status she has got Tashan, Goolmal Returns and Road Side Romeo lined up for 2008.
