Bollywood Actress Madhuri Dixit

The Madhubala of the nineties, this charming actress has ruled Bollywood for more than a decade like a Queen. Her beauty was so enchanting that the famous painter Maqbul Fida Hussein used her as a model for his paintings. Some say she is the Maryln Monroe of Bollywood. She earned the accolade of “Female Amitabh Bachchan of Bollywood” by her fame.
Madhuri Dixit was born on 15 May 1967 in a middle class family to Shankar and Sneha Lata. After completing School, Madhuri Dixit completed a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology. She wanted to become a microbiologist but destiny had something else in store for her. She started auditioning for movies and doing small time roles. She made a debut in Abodh. Subhash Ghai is said to have seen the spark in her dancing during the shooting of Awaara Baap. Ghai gave her a small dance sequence in Karma and roles in Uttar Dakshin and Ram Lakhan along with Anil Kapoor. She did one of the most famous kissing scenes of Bollywood with Vinod Khanna in Dayawan directed by Feroz Khan.
But Madhuri Dixit did not have to wait too long for other movies. N.Chandra's Tezaab proved to be the most successful movie of Madhuri Dixit. Her song Ek, Do, Teen took the country by storm. Tezaab completed a golden jubilee and became one of the biggest hits of its time. The era of Madhuri Dixit had just begun. A superb performance followed in Dil, in 1990, for which she got her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress. From 1988 to 1995 Madhuri Dixit was either nominated or has won the Filmfare Award.
Thereafter, Madhuri Dixit delivered a Mega Hit each year. She acted in Ram Lakhan, Parinda and Tridev in 1989, Kishen Kanhaiya in 1990, Saajan 1991, and Beta 1992, all super hits. Her next movie which shook Bollywood was Khalnayak. Her role of a police inspector and the song Choli Ke Piche Kya Hai was loved by Bollywood fans. Although this movie was a great hit it earned some criticism for obscenity of the song.
Then came the biggest hit of Madhuri Dixit and possibly on of the greatest films of Bollywood. Hum Apke Hai Kaun(co-starring with Salman Khan, Anupam Kher, Mohnish Bahl, Satish Shah, Alok nath and more) mesmerized the Bollywood fans. With her girl next door image Madhuri Dixit cast a web of magic on the audiences. Depiction of Indian family life in the movie was loved by the old and young alike. The movie became one of the biggest grosser ever. Madhuri Dixit was at the zenith of her career. And then came a strange lull in her career.
The period after 1995 till Dil to Pagal Hai in 1997 was not very good for Madhuri Dixit . Madhuri's films started to fail at the box office. Her movies like Yaarana, Rajkumar, Prem Granth(she gave sexy scenes in this movie co-starring with Rishi Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Om puri, Prem Chopra, Shammi Kapoor and more), Mahaanta were all shunned. However her 1995 film 'Raja' was a major hit where she starred with Sanjay Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Mukesh Khanna and Dalip Tahil. The media had by now written off Madhuri Dixit. It was also said that she preferred to make movies produced by her secretary. Prakash Jha's Mrityudand in 1997 got her critical acclaim. Yash Chopra's Dil To Pagal Hai in 1997 proved to be again one of the greatest films of Madhuri Dixit. She cast a spell on her audiences by her dancing and superb acting. After a long time such dancing skills were seen in Bollywood. This is where Madhuri Dixit benefited from her formal training in dancing. She won yet again the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Fame had brought her quite a few critics by now. Madhuri Dixit dedicated her Filmfare Award to her critics.
By now Madhuri Dixit was more than 30 years old. She married Dr Sriram Nene, an NRI settled in USA, on 17 October 1999. She didn't quite stop acting in films after her marriage. She gave a splendid performance in Pukar. in which one could see her dancing skills with the Super Dancer Prabhu Deva. After a short spell she did Lajja. On 25 August 2001 she was also awarded the "National Citizen's Award in Delhi for her excellence in various activities. Thus she became an icon at the national scene. And finally her role in Devdas was the icing on the cake which gave her the best supporting actress award.
In her personal life Madhuri Dixit has been equally flawless. There were rumours of a romance with Sanjay Dutt. After her marriage she gave birth to two sons in 2002 and 2004. On February 25, 2006 she performed yet again on stage after a gap of six years for the Filmfare Awards Ceremony. She made a comeback in Aaja Nachle in 2007. Despite her age Madhuri Dixit dazzled in the movie. But unfortunately the movie landed up in a controversy over social issues and was a failure. Madhuri Dixit plans to do one movie per year. It will be a great pleasure to see her yet again.
