Bollywood Actress Neetu Singh

Neetu Singh

Neetu Kapoor was born on July 8th, 1958. A jolly, cheerful and vivacious teenager, but before even she could know what it was to be like a teenager she was on the path of becoming a successful Bollywood actress with not much time to munch on chocolates and eat ice-creams. Neetu Singh bid adieu to Bollywood when she was just twenty one years of age. During the entire span of her not so long but yet successful career she invariably portrayed of a girl living life to the fullest.

The family name of Neetu Singh is Sonia Singh. She began her Bollywood career acting as a child artist and her screen name was Baby Sonia. Her first attempt at acting as a child artist was in the smash hit movie of ‘Do Kaliyan’ that was released in the year 1968 when she was just 10 years old. In 2 more films after that she took part in the form of a child artist, in 1969 she acted in the movie ‘Waris’ and then in 1970 she acted in the movie ‘Pavitra Paapi’. By the time she was 14 she started accepting offers to act as an adult actress in Bollywood movies and by the time she closed the acting chapter of her life she had acted alongside all the foremost actors of that preiod and of course in many movies along her husband Rishi Kapoor. Neetu came into prominence in the movie ‘Yaadon Ki Baarat’ in 1973 and by the time she was leaving the acting world she was nominated for the Filmfare Award as Best Supporting Actress for the movie ‘Kaala Pathar’ directed by Yash Chopra and co-starring with bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha and Parveen babi.

In more than twelve Bollywood movies Neetu has had the chance to appear with Rishi Kapoor. Rishi was first her co-star, then the two started dating each other and finally they both married each other happily. During their acting days the two of them appeared in numerous movie playing pranksters and having fun all though the movie. Rishi & Neetu hot married to one another on 22nd January 1980. When Neetu got married is was barely twenty one years of age. Neetu had made her decision and a good one too, getting married to a handsome young man in Bollywood’s first family would have been a dream come true. But that also meant that she had to give up a fledging career right when she was beginning to peak. She made a hard decision at that time; she sacrificed her booming career to retire from acting and chose to become a house wife, because the Kapoor family debarred females from acting or working after marriage. Neetu and Rishi have a son and a daughter from their marriage. Their daughter Ridhima is a fashion designer and is married to a Delhi based businessman named Bharat Sahni. Their son is Ranbir Kapoor, an aspiring actor and in 2007 he made his Bollywood debut in the film ‘Saawariya’.

The best thing that everyone would have noticed about their marriage is that even today when you see Neetu & Rishi together they seem inseparable. At any award function where Rishi is receiving an honor or award he never forgets to mention the way Neetu has managed the family and their kids while he was busy shooting for Bollywood movies. But make no doubt of the fact that she was every bit a versatile actor herself. The prime of her career she was said to be the look of the modern times that defined India during the 70’s. Her method, intelligence & etiquettes were sort of copied by young girls so they too could look appealing and beautiful, for men she was their ‘dream girl’. Her charm, her youthfulness and her energy were so sparkling, that one would need to see it to believe it.
