Bollywood Actress Pooja Bhatt

Pooja Bhatt

Pooja Bhatt was born on 24th February 1972 in Mumbai, India. Her father is the noted film maker, director-producer Mahesh Bhatt while her mother’s name is Kiran Bhatt. Her uncle too is a well-known film maker, Mukesh Bhatt. As a young child Pooja always wanted to reach for the stars and for that reason she dreamt of be an astronaut when she would grow up. She did her schooling in the wonderful locales of Switzerland.

She made her debut at the age of 16 when most other teenagers are still attending school regularly. She made an entirely unusual debut under with her father there by her side to guide her in the film 'Daddy' released in 1989. This movie was another of Bhatt’s melodramatic films. Pooja plays the role of young girl who brings back her father from total destruction as he is an alcohol addict.

Next up from this daughter-father combination was the hit ‘Dil Hain Ke Maanta Nahin’ that was released in 1991 and starred Bollywood perfectionist Aamir Khan along side Pooja Bhatt. This movie was more of a remake of the Hollywood classic that was released way back in 1934 titled ‘It Happened One Night’ and made by Frank Capra. Well remake or copy (as it was quite prevalent in the 90’s) the movie gave Pooja the biggest success of her short career. Aamir plays the role of a journalist name ‘Raghu’ and Pooja on the other hand is a spoilt child named ‘Pooja’ and her father is actor Anupam Kher. Raghu is a struggling journalist whose boss always threatens to fire him if he cannot find a story that will increase the business of his newspaper. Pooja wants to marry a Bollywood film actor but her father won’t have any of it. Raghu and Pooja meet in a bus when she flees from her home to meet her love interest. Raghu then writes her story so that he can give some material to his boss but he falls in love with her. The movie proved to be a massive hit.

But she could never capitalize on the success of this remain and during the entire tenure of her acting career it was her dad that would almost every time cast her in his movies.

But none, with the exception of 'Sadak' released in 1991 brought her good success. In this movie she plays the role of a prostitute who is saved from her despondent life by Sanjay Dutt. The movie was her second but also sadly her last success of her short span career in acting. For the next few years she continued to act in movies like Prem Deewane, Jaanam, Saatwan Aasman, Junoon, Sir, Chor Aur Chand and many more but success just kept eluding her. Thereafter she finally decided that she had enough of acting.

Ultimately she gave up acting and started producing her own movies. Her first shot at production came with the 1996 movie – Tamanna. It was a really touching movie a man of third sex adopts a child wit no parents and raises her amidst a lot of difficulties. But the film bombed and left Pooja with a lot of thinking to do. She then decided not to act in her own productions as well and take up her job as head of Pooja Bhatt Production’ as part of her life. Her next outing was much more successful, she produced the Bollywood movie ‘Dushman’ starring Sanjay Dutt and Kajol (Kajol has a double role). The movie managed to be a small hit.

She made her acting debut at age 17, in 1989 with Daddy, a TV film directed by her father Mahesh Bhatt. In the film she portrayed a soul-searching teenage girl in an estranged relationship with her alcoholic father, played by actor Anupam Kher.

Her biggest hit and her big screen debut came with a musical hit, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991) opposite Aamir Khan which was a remake of the Oscar-winning Hollywood classic "It Happened One Night." Pooja received the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for the film.

Her most well-known films in the 1990s included, Sadak (1991), Junoon (1992), Chaahat (1996), Tamanna (1996) and Zakhm (1998).

Her last film appearance was in Everybody Says I'm Fine! in 2001. She has since focused on producing and directing.

She made her directorial debut with Paap in 2004, starring John Abraham and Udita Goswami, since then she has made two more directorial ventures, Holiday (2006) and Dhokha (2007).

Her last appearance in a movie came in 2001 in the movie ‘Everybody Say’s I’m Fine!’. Thereafter she has concentrated on producing and directing movies.
