With one of the most beautiful faces in the world this actress has charmed the Bollywood like no one else before. Her lovely dimples are her trade mark. And she is the only actress to have won an award for bravery in addition to Filmfare Awards.

Preity Zinta was born to an Army officer. Being an army child she inculcated hard work and discipline during her childhood. She did her schooling in Shimla. In school she liked literature and was a keen basketball player. Unfortunately she faced trauma very early in life when she lost her father in a car accident and her mother was seriously injured. Preity Zinta braved life with her two brothers. She went on to do a degree with English honours and another course in psychology. She had also started modeling then. She was seen in the commercial for Perk. Her success landed her with many assignments and made her a celebrity in the modeling fraternity. She then met Shekhar Kapoor who recommended her to Mani Ratnam for a role in Dil Se. A glorious chapter of Bollywood was about to unfold.

Although she had started shooting for Kya Kehna and Soldier the release of both the movies was delayed. Thus Dil Se became her debut film. The launch opposite Shahrukh Khan in a Mani Ratnam film was a unique formula for success. She looked lovely and danced gracefully to win the Filmfare Best Debut Award. Incidentally she also won the award for Soldier opposite Bobby Deol in which she plays a glamorous role. Both the movies were hits and had firmly established Preity Zinta as an actress to reckon.

The next success for Preity Zinta was Kya Kehna in which she played the role of a single mother. The theme was quite bold and ahead of its time. Preity Zinta’s role where in she fights the society was very well appreciated. It also developed build her image as a woman of substance. Her next movie in 2000 was Mission Kashmir with Hrithik Roshan. Her role of a TV reporter was loved by Bollywood fans. It was a big hit and fully established Preity Zinta as a super star. They say nothing succeeds like success. Closely on the heels of Mission Kashmir came Dil Chahta Hai. Although it was a male predominant movie her role provided a graceful touch to this beautiful movie by Farhan Akhtar. Chori Chori Chupke Chupke presented the most challenging role to Preity Zinta. She had to play the prostitute who gets hired as a surrogate mother. Preity Zinta played this difficult role with amazing ease and proved her versatility. She won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for the movie.

2002 was a relatively dull year for Preity Zinta. It was followed by the brilliant success of Koi Mil Gaya and Kal Ho Na Ho which is possibly the best movie of her career till date. In Koi Mil Gaya she did a brilliant role opposite Hrithik Roshan for which she was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award which she eventually won for Kal Ho Na Ho. This movie was the high point of her career. She plays the role of an NRI girl who is trying to adjust her life in USA. Preity Zinta literally got into the skin of the character. The movie revolves around her and Shahrukh Khan which was a delightful double. Preity Zinta provided the Midas touch to this movie. It is said that this is one of the most perfect movies ever. Preity Zinta had reached the high point of her career. Preity Zinta also played a vampish role in 2003 movie 'Armaan'(co-starring with Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Gracy Singh, and old generation actor Randhir Kapoor) and received a Filmfare nomination for Best Villain.

The string of hits by this actress never stopped thereafter. She played the reel Barkha Dutt in Lakshya. Veer Zaara was the biggest hit of 2004 with an incredible role of a Pakistani girl by Preity Zinta. Salaam Namaste produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra along with Saif Ali Khan provided the super hit of 2005 which reminded of her role in Kya Kehna. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna along with Rani Mukerji and Amitabh Bachchan and directed by Karan Johar in 2006 was the icing on the cake. Success had by now become her second nature.

Preity Zinta has been equally frank, forthright and successful in her personal life. She was earlier linked with Mark Robinson. Thereafter there were allegations against her by Kavita Krsihnamurthy for ruining her marriage which turned out to be false. Her present Beau is the Bombay Dyeing owner Ness Wadia. Preity Zinta also was most fearless in the Bharat Shah case where in she was the only Bollywood star who gave a statement against the Underworld and did not back track in the court.

Life has been swinging for this actress. With Ness Wadia she has sponsored the Mohali Cricket team in the IPL league. She has also acted in Rituparno Ghosh's English movie The Last Lear, which premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival.
