Bollywood Actress Priyanka Chopra
This Beauty Queen came and conquered Bollywood within no time. From humble background, this girl next door, made it big in Bollywood with her looks, elegance and sheer hard work. She is now looked upon to replace the older generation heroines. Priyanka Chopra was born to parents, both doctors, on 18 July 1982. Her father is a surgeon in the Army. Being a child of an Army Officer she had to undergo the rigors of frequent moves. Nevertheless she managed to instill the disciplined way of life of the army in herself. The varied exposure that she got also gave her the much required smartness and confidence. She did her schooling from various places including the United States and joined the Army School at Bareilly. Priyanka Chopra completed her graduation from La Martiniere Girls' College in Lucknow. The Miss India contest came beckoning. Her father encouraged Priyanka Chopra to participate in the Miss India contest. Priyanka Chopra had always specialized in extra curricular activities in School. Singing and writing poetry had been her favorite hobbies. It is said that Priyanka Chopra was initially reluctant to participate in the Miss India contest. But encouragement from her father did the trick and she went on to be nominated for the Miss World pageant. Her victory at the Miss World contest was expected by many. Here luck favoured Priyanka Chopra as she won the Crown, although she gave a slightly wrong answer to a question posed to her in the final round. Thus she was destined to make it big and was crowned the Miss World 2000. Priyanka Chopra had to undergo a lot of hard work in the run up to the contest which was to stand her in good stead in the days ahead. The Miss World title landed her with a lot of assignments. The precedent of beauty queens entering Bollywood had already been established by now. The entry of Priyanka Chopra in Bollywood was evident. Yet she was not having the right connections for an opening. She decided to go south. She made her debut in a Tamil movie Thamizhan. This was a big hit and provided the required push to Priyanka Chopra towards Bollywood. The actress made her debut in The Hero. In 2003 she did Andaz. With Akshay Kumar in the lead this was a good movie to start with. It did well at the box office and got Priyanka her first award. She won Filmfare's and Star Screen's Most Promising Newcomer award. There after she did Plan, Kismet and Asambhav which were average. She desperately required a big hit to make it. She acted in the David Dhawan Blockbuster Mujse Shaadi Karogi(co-starring with Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Amrish Puri, Satish Shah, Kader Khan and more). This movie in a way was the re establishment of David Dhawan as a super entertainer. It had the combination of Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan which Bollywood had not seen till now. Priyanka Chopra did a fabulous role in this movie. The movie went on to be a big hit and earned a lot of praise for Priyanka Chopra. Thus she was able to break the ice and become a part of the leaders in Bollywood. Thereafter came Aitraz which was a very bold movie. Priyanka Chopra played the vamp who seduces the hero and almost manages to rape him. This is the first time that a woman was depicted in such an erotic mood in a Bollywood movie and Priyanka Chopra played it to the hilt. Her role made Aitraz a big hit. The actress won the Filmfare Award for Best Woman in a Negative Role for this movie. Priyanka Chopra had finally moved out of the shadows of the preceding beauty queens to establish her own domain in Bollywood. Thereafter there was no stopping her. Priyanka Chopra did six movies in 2005 which were average. However her movie titled 'Bluffmaster" in 2005 became hit where she is co-starring with Abhishek Bachchan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Boman Irani and Nana Patekar. Her next big film was Krrish which was a block buster. Paired with Hrithik Roshan for the first time this sequel of Koi Mil Gaya was a super hit. Closely after Krrish, came Don another super hit this time by a big director like Farhan Akhtar. In the beginning of 2007 she featured in the multi starrer movie Salaam-e-Ishq directed by Nikhil Advani and featuring a huge starcast including Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Akshaye Khanna, Ayesha Takia, John Abraham, Vidya Balan, Govinda, Shannon Esra, Sohail Khan and Isha Koppikar in lead roles but the movie flopped at the box office miserably. 2007 was also not a very good year for the actress. In her personal life she is rumoured to have dated Akshay Kumar which both actors deny. She was also in the news for a disagreement with Prakash Jaju who used to manage her business. The contract was terminated legally and the actress came clean of the controversy. By now she has featured opposite all Bollywood stars and has gathered a reputation of an excellent actress. She has got God Tussi Great Ho, Love Story 2050 and Fashion with Madhur Bhandarkar and three more movies lined up. Priyanka Chopra is expected to be the biggest star of 2008.
