Raakhee Gulzar

Indian bollywood actress, Raakhee Gulzar was born on August 15, 1947 in west Bengal, India. She belonged to a Bengali speaking family and she had no link with bollywood film industry. Her career consists of 43 years from 1967s to 2003. Raakhee was a teenager when she was married Ajay Biswas, a Bengali film director. This arranged marriage was ended unhappily after a short period. After that she married to a poet, lyricist and famous film director Gulzar. She has separated from Gulzar in her second marriage too but not divorced. Raakhee Gulzar also known as Raakhee or Rakhi won Padma Shri award in 2003. Her daughter Meghna directed two movies; Filhaal and Just Married. Bollywood stars Tabu, Sushmita Sen, Palaash Sen, and Sanjay Suri performed in Filhall and Fardeen Khan opposite Esha Deol starred in Just Married . Megna also directed a part of Dus Kahaniyaan directed by Sanjay Gupta.

Raakhee Gulzar started her career from Benglai film Badhu Baran in 1967. She won praise for her performance in this mvoie. Her ability of acting was judged by the actor, producer and director Sunil Dutt who cast her in his movie but the movie was an average at box office. After it she acted in first Hindi film Jeevan Mrityu of Rajshri Productions opposite Dharmendra in 1970. She won fame from the film Sharmilee in which she played double role. Sharmilee was realsed in 1971 and she acted opposite Shashi Kapoor. After the success of this movie she performed in a series of successful moives. Yash Chopra directed and produced a film Daag in 1972. Rakhee acted with famous bollywood stars such as Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna, Kader Khan, A.K. Hangal, Madan Puri and Prem Chopra.

In 1976 she acted in Kabhie Kabhie which was produced and directed by Yash Chopra. She acted with Waheeda Rehman, Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh. In this year she acted in Tapasya starring Parikshat Sahni, A. K. Hangal, Asrani and Lalita Pawar under the banner of Rajshree Productions. In 1977 she performed in a film Muqaddar Ka Sikander directed by Prakash Mehra. Her co-stars were Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Amjad Khan and Rekha. Kaala Patthar directed by Yash Chopra was released in 1979 in which she performed outstandingly with Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Parveen Babi. In the same year she acted in a movie Jurmana produced by Debesh Gosh and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Bollywood stars who starred in this movie include Amitabh Bachchan, Shreeram Lagoo, Vinod Mehra, Keshto Mukherjee, Asrani and Farida Jalal.

She acted in Lawaaris, another bollywood movie of Prakash Mehra in 1981 starring Ametabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman and Amjad Khan. Rakhee also performed in Bemisal in 1982 opposite Amitabh Bachchan and Paroma in 1984. In mid 1980s and 1990s she played supporting roles in movies. Movies of this period include Ram Lakhan, Baazigar, Khalnayak, Karan Arjun, Border, Soldier and Baadshah. In 2003 Rakhee acted in Shubho Muhurat which was his last film. She won National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for this movie.

Rakhee Gulzar won many awards for her outstanding performances in bollywood movies. She won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Daag in 1973, Filmfare Best Actress Award for Tapasya in 1976, Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Ram Lakhan in 1989 and National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for Shubho Muhurat in 2003. She was nominated for Filmfare Best Actress Award for Aankhon Aankhon Mein in 1972, Kabhie Kabhie in 1976, Doosra Aadmi in 1977, Trishna in 1978, Jurmana in 1979, Baseraa in 1981, Saaheb in 1985. She was nominated for the award of Filmfare Best Supporting Actress for Doosra Aadmi in 1977, Anari in 1993, Karan Arjun in 1995, Border in 1997 and Soldier in 1998.
