Bollywood film director Rajkumar Santoshi

Rajkumar Santoshi

Rajkumar Santoshi is one of the leading directors of Bollywood today. His movies are always based on some real issues and not on some script that has no starting and no ending just like a body without hands and legs. Rajkumar Santoshi is a director who scouts for new scripts rather than happening to see a Hollywood blockbuster and then incorporate his own thoughts into it, add some nice music, pick up some fabulous international locations and put them all into one to make a nice Bollywood chic movie and promote it with flashy commercials.

In the 1990 he is the director who is credited with giving good roles to Bollywood actor Sunny Deol and taking the best of out Sunny Deol to deliver hits movies and nationally acclaimed films. Today he is easily one of the top most directors in Bollywood. When you see a list or read through the list of his movies it will be more than apparent that he believes in film making that gives a message or make people to think about the various issues that we ignore most often.

He started his Bollywood career with being the assistant director in the film ‘Ardh Satya’ which was released in the year 1982. His first film as a director exemplifies why he is so highly regarded. 1990 he directed his first movie ‘Ghayal’ starring his favorite actor Sunny Deol, Amrish Puri and Meenakshi Seshadri in the lead roles. The movie is a story depicting Amrish Puri and his two sons. Amrish and Sunny live in a holy city and his old son along with his family in a big city. Due to some health problems Amrish Puri’s doctor tells him to consult a doctor in a big city. Amrish & Sunny decide to go to the big city where his elder son is living. Circumstances put this family in a situation that they are fighting for survival. Sunny decides enough is enough and takes on the evil forces and ends his family’s sufferings. The movie was critically acclaimed and his direction won his applause from all corners.

Then in 1993 Rajkumar Santoshi directed another movie that hit the audience right in the face. The movie was like making a strong remark on the high society people who gave their brutish sons cover for their mistakes. The story depicts the son of an industrialist who rapes a minor girl working in their house as a maid. His prestige is at stake when the family’s daughter-in-law says that she is willing to testify about the incident. She is forced against her will to not come out in public with the revelations, but she is determined. They put her in a mental hospital to get rid of her. But a lawyer in the form of actor Sunny Deol takes up the challenge to fight her case in court. His direction of the movie is fantastic and keeps the audience enthralled throughout the movie. He then directed the quite successful and now revered ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ starring Raveena Tandon, Aamir Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Salman Khan. The movie was and out and out comedy and is extremely hilarious when Aamir and Salman act together.

Rajkumar Santoshi has also made ‘Pukar’, the movie on national integration that won actor Anil Kapoor a National Award for Best Actor and also ‘Khakee’ which was a multi-starrer. Khakee had the likes of Ajay Devgan, Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Tusshar Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. He also made the movie ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’ starring his current favorite actor Ajay Devgan in the lead role. He again directed Ajay Devgan in 2008 in the movie ‘Halla Bol’. As it is apparent now that he makes cinema of the genre that is different from what other Bollywood director make. He has a story and a message that he wants to pass onto his audience. Cinema is beautiful for sure but directors like Rajkumar Santoshi make it more viewable.
