Bollywood Actor And Director Rakesh Roshan

Rakesh Roshan

Rakesh Roshan was born on September 6th, 1949 in Bombay, India. Rakesh’s family has a long history of being involved with the Bollywood Film Industry. Right from when his father, the legendary music director Mr. Roshan was a part of the Bollywood scene to till date there has been active and creditable contribution from this family. His brother Mr. Rajesh Roshan too is a music director. His wife Pinky Roshan herself has been a Bollywood actress and his father-in-law is the noted Hindi film director Om Prakash Jha. His son, Hrithik Roshan is today of the most dashing and popular actors of Bollywood.

Rakesh Roshan started his career in the 1970’s and started out as an actor, since then he has starred in as many as 70 films and then gradually went on to produce and direct some of Bollywood’s most successful films. Most of the films that Rakesh Roshan acted in were in the comedy or light hearted movie genre. He would always play the sweet chap riding a bi-cycle and then dancing amongst the trees with his love interest. In 1978 he starred in the movie ‘Khatta Meetha’ along with a cluster of actors like Ashok Kumar, Bindiya Goswami, Preeti Ganguly and Pearl Padamsee. The entire movie is so loveable to the extent that we’d love to have a family like theirs in today’s world.

In the movie Ashok Kumar has lost his wife and has sons who are completely lazy except for the two grown up ones who are looking for a job or working and bring an income home. Pearl on the other hands and sons and a daughter too is stifled with the hardship of life. The two meet through a common friend and decide to get married. Initially the two families find it hard to get along but things fall in place eventually. His acting in the movie was affable and simple as well.

Then 1980 he starred along with Bollywood beauty Rekha and Ashok Kumar amongst others. This movie was directed by the late Hrishikesh Mukherjee. It was a brilliant out and out complete comedy and Rekha for her brilliant performance won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Rakesh Roshan like Rekha in the movie but Rekha is not fond of her to be mother-in-law, what follows is a prime example of a completely hilarious comedy well supported by all central character.

Then Rakesh Roshan turned a new leaf in his career. He formed his own production company under the auspices of – Filmkraft in 1980. Since that date the letter ‘K’ has features prominently in all his films. Though is first production ‘Aap Ke Deewane’ did not start with the letter ‘K’ his other ventures did. In 1987, Rakesh Roshan directed his first movie ‘Khudgarz’. That was the beginning of what can be easily termed as one of the most successful innings a Bollywood directed has even witnessed. There have been a few misses in between but then nothing in this world is flawless and even our great Prime Ministers have made blunders. In 2003 he directed a Bollywood science fiction film named 'Koi Mil Gaya' starring Rekha, Hrithik Roshan, Prem Chopra and Preity Zinta. This movie became very popular among children.

Right from ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’ that was release in 1988 all the way up to ‘Krrish’ starring his son Hrithik Roshan released in 2006, Rakesh Roshan has received numerous accolades for his success. One of his most successful movies has been the debut movie of his son ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’, released in 2000. The movie starred two debutants, Hrithik Roshan and Amisha Patel. Anupam Kher also played a major role in this movie. The movie has been registered in the Limca Book of records for receiving the highest number of awards won by the same Bollywood movie. Rakesh Roshan is a winner all the way and his movies set the benchmark for other Bollywood movies to follow.
