Rekha is an institute and has depths of all kinds in her character. Rekha is the pride and crown of Bollywood film industry. She is the most beautiful actress not from outer but her inner is also very beautiful. Rekha was born on 10 October 1954 in Chennai. Her father Gemini Ganesh was a great Tamil actor and her mother Pushpavalli was Telugu actress. She spent her life for acting and followed her father footsteps. So studio, acting and dance were not new things for her.
Her name was Bhanurekha Ganesan but became popular with the name of “Rekha”. She is bold, beautiful and attractive even in her middle age. She is aware of all kinds of ups and downs in the Bollywood film industry and she is one of the most glamorous and attractive ladies in Bollywood film industry. Rekha is the model and example for all the new comers in Indian film industry.
This National Film Award Winner Bollywood actress was called The Diva of Bollywood and was considered symbol of sex in Indian media. She is a verstile actress and won Filmfare Best Actress Awards for Khubsoorat and Khoon Bhari Maang. She won National Film Award for Best Actress for her movie Umrao Jaan in which she performed outstandingly the portrayal of a classical courtesan. Rekha has performed in more than 180 films in her filmy career of 40 years. She performed both in indian mainstream cinema as well as in art cinema or parallel cinema and won praise from all over the world.
Parents of Rekha were not married and she revealed her origins in early 1970 when she entered in Bollywood film industry. Rekha has affairs with many Bollywood stars including Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Mehra. She married Delhi-based businessman Mukesh Aggarwal in 1990 who committed suicide in 1991. Rekha is living with her seceratary Farazan at Mumbai. She spends her free time in watching movies, collecting postcards, drawing cartoons, photography, collecting old photographs etc.
Career
Rekha started her career as a child star in Telugu film Rangula Ratnam in 1966 at the age of 13 years. She acted as a heroine in Goadalli CID 999 with Dr. Rajkumar in 1969. Rekha learnt Hindi because she was Tamil and Telugu spoken. In 1970 her two films were released Telugu film, Amma Kosam and the Hindi, Sawan Bhadon. Sawan Bhadon was a hit film which uplifted her filmi career. She also performed in commercially successful films such as as Kahani Kismat Ki, Raampur Ka Lakshman and Pran Jaaye Par Vachan Na Jaayeetc. But her acting abilities were not appreciated too much. In 1976 her acting abilities were highly appreciated when she performed in Do Anjaane with Amitabh Bachchan. It was a hit but the turning point in her career came in 1978 when she performed the role of a rape victim in Ghar with Vinod Mehra. This film is considered as a milestone in her filmi career and she was nominated as Best Actress at the Filmfare. In the same year she performed in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar with Amitabh Bachchan. She got real fame from this movie because it was the biggest hit. Rekha was considered as one of the most successful actresses of that time and she was nominated as Best Supporting Actress at Filmfare. She is a type of actress who have acted with almost every bollywood actor since 1970 including Rajendra Kumar, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Sunil Dutt, Randhir Kapoor, Feroz Khan, Rakesh Roshan, Nana Patekar, south indian actor Rajnikanth, Shatrughan Sinha and villians like Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra and many more.
After the record success of Muqaddar Ka Sikandar Rekha went on in a number of hits with her co-star Amitabh Bachchan. Silsila in 1981 was another hit of Rekha with Amitabh Bachchan. The relationship betrween Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan developed and it was widely reported and criticized by the Indian media. This relationship was ended in 1981 when they performed in Silsala which was based on their real life relationship. Rekha plays the role of Bachchan’s love and Bachchan’s real wife Jaya Bhaduri played the role of his wife.
Critics admit that Rekha worked hard to learn Hindi and acting and she improved her acting as well as physical health. She transformed herself physically as well as mentally through Yuga, exercise and proper diet. In 1981 she performed well in Umrao Jaan an urdu film. It is considered one of the best performances of her career and she won National Film Award for Best Actress.
In 1980s she worked regulary in art cinema as well as in parallel cinema. She showed her performance in many other movies such as Shyam Benegal's award-winning drama, Kalyug; Baseraa, Ek Hi Bhool. She won the praise from viewers as well as from the critics by performing well in these movies. Some other successful movies of 1980 were Utsav, Jeevan Dhaara and Ijaazat. Unlike most actresses of her generation during the 70s and the 80s, like Hema Malini and Raakhee, who began making supporting roles as the mother or the aunty, Rekha was still playing the leading roles, at the same time when heroines Madhuri Dixit and Raveena Tandon were notable.
In 1990 She performed in some unsuccessful films which drops her career. In this decade Kama Sutra: A Tale Of Love and the Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi were her most notable films. She won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and the Star Screen Award Best Villain for her role of villain. In these years she is performing the roles of mother or widow woman. She is performing her role with glory with many new actresses and actores of Bollywood. Rekha’s diction and dialogue delivery were natural and example for new comers. In recent years, she has appeared in relatively few movies, usually as a mother or a widow rather than a glamour queen. She acted in films such as. In 2001, she starred as Ramdulari in Rajkumar Santoshi's Lajja, along with an ensemble cast that included Manisha Koirala, Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor.

Rekha has spent a part of her life in Bollywood film industry. During her career she has won many awards. In 1982 she won National Film Award for Best Actress for Umrao Jaan. She won Filmfare Best Actress Award in 1980 and 1988 for Khubsoorat and Khoon Bhari Maang respectively. She received Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in 1997 for her movie Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.
In 1997 Rekha received Star Screen Award Best Villain for Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi. In 2006 she won Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement and Zee Cine Awards - Forever Diva Award in 2007. In 2004 She won Bollywood Movie Award - Best Supporting Actress for Koi Mil Gaya(co-starring with Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta) and other awards such as BFJA Awards Best Actress in 1988 for Utsav, Maha Style Icon of the year in 2004, Sony Golden Glory Award in 2005, Idea Zee F Awards - Fashionable Film Star in 2006, Stardust Awards - Role Model of the year in 2006, Deenanath Mangeshkar Award in 2006, Living Legend in the world of entertainment in 2007 and Award celebrating her beauty in 2007.
