Bollywood Actor Sanjay Dutt

He is a star who has done a great social service to India by reminding us of Mahatma Gandhi once again. This feat could not be achieved by any government. But this actor from Bollywood has conveyed the message of Mahatma Gandhi through his acting in the movie Lage Raho Munna Bhai. The movie had such an effect that it was declared tax free in many states.
Sanjay Dutt was born with a silver spoon. Son of Bollywood legends Nargis and Sunil Dutt this Bollywood actor requires no introduction. He was born on 29 July 1959. Like all celebrity kids Sanjay Dutt went to a high profile school. In his case it was Lawrence School, Sanawar. He is a tall man like Amitabh Bachchan and a handsome personality. He got into bad company in school and came under the influence of drugs. He also suffered the death of his mother just before the release of his first film. The sorrow of his mother's death took the actor further deep into drugs. Finally he had to be moved to a rehabilitation centre to United States. He returned to India after a remarkable recovery.
His career commenced with acting in Reshma Aur Shera as a child artist. His first film Rocky was a big hit where his co star was Tina Munim. However his treatment in United States took him away. The actor returned with Vidhaata and Naam in 1982. Naam was very well received by the audiences and it set the course for the brilliant career of Sanjay Dutt. He also played a major role along with actor Govinda in the fim "Ek Aur Ek Gyarah" by comedic writer David Dhawan.
However this road was going to be ridden with obstacles.
The eighties saw Sanjay Dutt struggling as an actor. He was coping with his drug problem also. All his releases in the eighties were mediocre and he did not have a significant hit till Sajjan in 1991 and also 'Sadak' directed by Mahesh Bhatt in 1991 and co-starring with Pooja Bhatt. When his career appeared to be just about taking off he was headed for major problems. Those were the days when the underworld was most active in Mumbai. In 1993 a series of bomb blasts rocked Mumbai. The police started hunting those responsible for these blasts. Ironically at this moment Sanjay Dutt had his first mega hit Khalnayak directed by great indian film director Subhash Ghai. His role as a gangster was very well received. Khalnayak went on to win a lot of praise for Sanjay Dutt. He also worked in another movies like Chal Mere Bhai and "Shaadi No.1" directed by David Dhawan which became very popular.
The Mega actor Sanjay Dutt had just arrived. But fate had other things in store. He got charged for illegal possession of one AK 47 rifle by Mumbai police. An arrest warrant was issued against the actor who was then shooting in Mauritius. On 19 April 1993 the actor was arrested and sent to Arthur Road Jail. He spent 18 months in jail. This was the most trying time for the actor. Although he received a lot of support from Bollywood, people felt that it was the end of the road for the actor.
After this long stint in jail he was released in 1995 on bail. Thereafter the actor did movies which were not very remarkable. During this period his performance in Daud, Dushman and Daag: The Fire were noticed by the audiences. Finally Sanjay Dutt made a great comeback with Vaastav in 1999. Ironically it was his role as a gangster in Vaastav which won him the Best actor award and propelled him to super star status.
Just then the actor got into the next major controversy. He was now under the scanner by the Enforcement Directorate for money laundering and hawala deals. Excerpts of his telephone conversation with underworld dons were also released. Court proceedings were still under progress then.
Sanjay Dutt had an equally troubled personal life. He married Rich Sharma in 1987. He was also blessed with a girl, Trishala. But Richa Sharma was diagnosed with cancer and the two divorced by mutual consent. He then married Rhea Pillai. This relationship lasted till 2005 when they finally separated with a divorce. The golden period yet eluded the actor.
The career of the actor took a distinct turn after Vaastav. He did a significant role in Mission Kashmir. Finally it was a movie made by his father Munnabhai MBBS which gained him super stardom. He plays the role along with Gracy Singh of a local Don from Mumbai who is simple and good natured with actor Arshad Warsi as his friend. He used to tease a lot to overdisciplined principal of college Dr. Asthana(Boman Irani). This movie was a great hit. This was followed by Kaante another hit and finally Lage raho Munnabhai where his sterling performance conveyed the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi to the country.
Trouble again knocked on the actor's door. He was convicted for illegal possession of arms and awarded seven years in Jail. After being imprisoned the actor was released yet again on bail. This was followed by the release of Dus. Sanjay Dutt married Manyata on 23 Feb 2008. And yet again controversy did not elude the actor. The marriage has been not yet cleared by the Goa court for want of some documents.
