Shahrukh Khan

The King Khan, as we all know him, is the cynosure of all eyes Indian. He has established Bollywood as his territory and threatens to dislodge the likes of Kapoors and Bachchans. Yes, we are talking about Shahrukh Khan, the great Bollywood actor.

He was born in an Army family on Second day of November in 1965. The actor inherited the virtues of Army discipline from his parents. He studied in Delhi University and did post graduation in mass communications. He shifted residence to Mumbai in 1991 and married childhood sweetheart Gauri in a hindu wedding.

The actor took a shy at acting in television serials. He made a debut in the serial, Fauji, which was well received. He made his debut in Deewana. His second movie Maya Memsaab was somewhat controversial. Shahrukh Khan skyrocketed to fame with the role of a negative hero in Bazigar which means Gambler. With his sterling performance he literally won the gamble of Bollywood and was awarded the Filmfare award for best actor. In the same year the actor did a similar role in Darr. The rule of the King Khan had just commenced. He had his namesake Aamir Khan and Salman Khan to compete with. Shahrukh Khan showed his versatile acting by winning the Filmfare Award for the Best Villain in Anjaam.

The melodrama Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge directed by Karan Johar virtually took the nation by storm and became a mega hit. The pair of Kajol and Shahrukh Khan became the formula for success to many directors. However 1996 proved to be a dampener. In 1996 he acted in 'Chaahat' along with Pooja Bhatt and the movie was directed by Mahesh Bhatt but did not do well. There was no major success for the actor. The dawn of 1997 heralded a new era in Bollywood. Pardes was a major success. Dancing was emerging as a national passion. Dil to Pagal Hai the musical hit saw Shahrukh Khan perform the role of a Dance Instructor with Bollywood beauties Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor showing their dancing prowess. The movie was a huge hit and the songs of the movie became household tunes. Yes Boss was a great entertainer with the lovely Juhi Chawla. Certainly 1997 was the zenith of Shahrukh Khan's career. The actor had by now also mastered the art of performing with new heroines too.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai saw the blooming of a new partnership, Karan Johar and Shahrukh Khan. The duo went on to produce Kabhi khushi Kabhi Gam and Kal Ho Na Ho in later years which were all super hits. The actor entered the new millennium with Mohabbatein and Josh. Shahrukh Khan foryed into film production with Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani. A much talked about film in 2002 was Devdas with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and co-starring with Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai and Jackie Shroff. However for this film Saira Banu(wife of great actor Dilip Kumar) said although it has great production value and grandeur, it does not have the soul that the original Devdas movie has. By now success had become a habit with Shahrukh Khan. 2004 saw a partnership with Farah Khan in Main Hoon Na. Yash Chopra's Veer Zara was the biggest success of the year. Swades spread the message of reverse brain drain in the country and earned him the Filmfare Award.

2005 was a lean year with Paheli. Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna was a great success abroad. However the best of Shahrukh Khan was yet to come. Chak De can be called his greatest hit. Made on a shoe string budget it shook the nation from slumber to pay more attention towards its national game. Hockey. Hundreds of Managers have drawn a lesson or two from the movie. Based on a true story the movie became a subject of national debate. By now Shahrukh Khan had become synonymous with national integration. Dil Se and Bombay had already spread the message which was further reinforced by Chak De. Shahrukh Khan had also turned 43 in 2007. His looks though seem to improve with age. He sported an all new six pack of abdominal muscles in the Farah Khan produced Om Shanti Om. And yet again he co stared with a new heroine, Deepika Padukone. The magic of the King Khan continues unabated. He is not only an actor but he also became the producer along with Karan Johar for the 2005 bollywood film titled Kaal starring Ajay Devgan, John Abraham, Vivek Oberoi, Lara Dutta and Esha Deol. He also produced one movie along with her wife Gauri Khan. The movie is "Main Hoon Na" starring Shahrukh Khan himself, Sushmita Sen, Amrita Rao, Sunil Shetty, Naseeruddin Shah, Boman Irani, Satish Shah and Rakhi Sawant.

Shahrukh Khan also is a brand ambassador like the actor Amitabh Bachchan and has successfully launched thousands of products. He has rubbed shoulders with cricketers and is present to witness Cricket matches in the country and abroad. He took a giant leap in the Corporate world by sponsoring the Kolkatta Team in the IPL Auction of cricket players.

Besides being a mega star that he is, Shahrukh Khan has proved to be the perfect family man. In the glamorous world of Bollywood he has managed to stay away from controversy. He is still happily married to Gauri with two children and has proved to be a role model husband also.

His Bunglow in Mumbai, Mannat, is a landmark. He has stepped in the shoes of Amitabh Bachchan and anchored the KBC show on TV. Shahrukh Khan will live forever in the Madame Tussauds Museum. Long live King Khan.
