Bollywood Actor Shakti Kapoor

Shakti Kapoor was born on 3rd September 1958. Shakti Kapoor firstly has no connection and is not related in anyways to the family of the Kapoor’s who are the first family of Bollywood.
Shakti Kapoor started out his Bollywood career with the movie ‘Kahani Kismet Ki’ that was released in the year 1973 and that a stellar star cast of Dharmendra and Rekha. But the movie did not bring him any recognition what so ever and Shakti was left struggling for movie acting opportunities. He did act in the super hit movie of ‘Jaani Dushman’ that was released in 1979 but amidst a super star cast of the likes of Sunil Dutt, Rekha, Shatrughan
Sinha, Vinod Mehra, Sanjeev Kumar and a half a dozen more prime actors, Shakti again went unnoticed for his performance. But things were going to change for this then young actor.
His time arrived and when it did arrive he too got to prove his mantle in the movie ‘Qubani’. ‘Qurbani’ directed and produced by Bollywood’s dashing actor Feroz Khan under his own banner – FK International. The project starred Vinod Khanna, Zeenat
Aman, Feroz Khan, Shakti Kapoor and Aruna Irani. The movie was a superb action flick and till date is one of the most like films to seen especially for its songs like ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’. This film opened the flood gates for Bollywood offered to come Shakti’s way. Though they were all villainous roles but now the roles offered were of the main villain character and not smaller or less meaningful roles. In movie like ‘Dance Dance’ that was released in 1987 and in many such movies of the same period he would be playing the role of a young brat son of a rich father who would like his friend daughter to get married to his son (Shakti in movie). Shakti would be bad behaved and the girl would never like him, Shakti would not leave the girl would chase and trouble until the hero would come and bash him up. Examples of such movies are aplenty.
Then with the advent of the 1990’s Shakti Kapoor went for an image makeover. Probably he had done all the roles that he could do as a villain. Shakti Kapoor has acted in a world record 413 movies. 413 is a huge number of films and considering the fact that he is still going strong in his movie career the number could well be more by the time he decides to call it a day. Most of movies have been where he has been cast as a villain so most probably for an actor he must have explored all the role that were possibly there for him to do in the Bollywood genre. He has acted as villian opposite to almost every actor in the bollywood including Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, body builder Sunny Deol, cool Anil Kapoor, handsom Salman Khan, jumping jack Jeetendre, Hema Malini's dream boy Dharmendra, Paresh Rawal, Bobby Deol etc and also with other actors who theselves acted as villian along with Shakti Kapoor like Amrish Puri, Om Puri, Pran, Prem Chopra, Gulshan Grover and many more.
Post 1990 he started concentrating on doing comedy roles. His first major role as a comedic came in 1994 when he starred in the movie ‘Raja Babu’ along side Govinda and actress Karisma Kapoor. The story of the movie is where Govinda is an affable countryside uneducated but humble boy who falls in love with Karisma who think of him to be a well educated person, this because at his village home Govinda’s mother has photos of him as a ship captain, lawyer, police cop and others. But when she gets to know its all fake she refuses to meet. Shakti Kapoor is Govinda’s friend and keeps him cheerful all through the ordeal of winning back Karisma’s love. For his very good light hearted comedy Shakti Kapoor his first ever Filmfare Award in the Best Comic Actor category. He also acted in David Dhawan movie Coolie
No.1.
Thereafter Shakti has acted in numerous Bollywood flicks as a comedian. His most notable releases being ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’, ‘Judwaa’, Chal Mere Bhai,‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United’(starring Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam, Mohnish
Behl and Tabu). More recently he has become a permanent fixture in director Priyadarshan’s movies that are out & out comedy movies such Hungama, Chup Chup Ke, Hulchul & Maalamaal Weekly.
In 2005 a major controversy brokeout with Shakti Kapoor being caught on camera by a TV journalist posing as a struggling & aspiring Bollywood actress. It was a string operation where Shakti Kapoor was caught asking for sexual favors of that female for helping make it big. It clearly showed that casting couch does exists in Bollywood.
