Bollywood Actress Shilpa Shetty
Shilpa Shetty was born on June 8th 1975 in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Her father’s name is Surendra Shetty who runs tamper-proof caps manufacturing unit that is supplied to the pharmaceutical industry. Her mother’s name is Sunanda Shetty who is a former model her self. Shilpa has a younger sister Shamita Shetty who too is a popular Bollywood actress. Shilpa Shetty has good knowledge of various languages like Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, English, Kannada, Urdu, Telugu, Gujarati and little bit of French as well. Shilpa did her primary education from St. Anthony Girl’s High School that is located in Chembur area of Mumbai and thereafter she got herself enrolled into Podar College in Mumbai itself. Shilpa is a trained Bharatanatyam dance and she is good not just at dancing but also excelled at sports. During her schooling days she was the volleyball team captain and a black belt karate fighter too. Of her current activities, she is very much involved in dance & sport and is an expert too. She made her Bollywood debut in the 1993 film titled ‘Baazigar’ and since then has appeared in more than 50 Indian movies of Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages. In her first Bollywood movie, Baazigar she played the second lead role opposite Shahrukh Khan, and Kajol played the main female role. Though the length of her role wasn’t too extensive, she did her job well but still didn’t receive the acclaim and recognition that she deserved. Though the consolation came from the fact that she was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in a supporting role. Her next movie was Aag that was released in 1994, and it went unnoticed. And thereafter the downslide continued unabated. Aao Pyaar Karen, Hathkadi, Ckote Sarkar, Himmat, Gambler all these were flops and it was considered that she couldn’t act and she became an unsuccessful Bollywood actress. All the way till before 2000 she kept appearing in movies that were at best mediocre and though she is one of Bollywood’s most gorgeous actresses it meant nothing as her beauty and personality and charm could not fetch her any success. 2000 is one of the most memorable year of her life in Bollywood she was cast along side leading Bollywood actors Sunil Shetty and Ashkay Kumar in the movie ‘Dhadkan’ which was the first solo hit of her career and it got her all the recognition and fame and fan base that had eluded this wonderful actress all through her career till then. Then in 2004 her critically acclaimed movie ‘Phir Milenge’ where she was cast opposite Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. What she enacted in that movie was something that had probably never been done in Bollywood cinema by a famous mainstream actress. She played the role of a metropolis city female that is successful in her job and contracts HIV by having unprotected sex and as a result her life is gradually thrown into turmoil. People went ga ga over her performance and the movie too. 2007, was the most eventful year in her life, her movie – life in A… Metro, was a not a big budget movie but yet it proved to be successful and if her acting is to be taken into consideration then it can easily be termed as the highlight of her acting career. In the same year she also starred in the movie ‘Apne’ produced by Vijeyta Film starring the 3 Bollywood Deol stars, Sunny Deol, Dharmendra and Bobby Deol. The movie proved to be a success at the box office. But this was just a sign of things to come. In 2007, Shilpa Shetty signed on to star in the British reality show ‘Big Brother’. It was for the 1st time ever that a person of Indian origin was appearing on the hit TV show and Shilpa was reportedly paid close to a handsome $1 million for her appearance. She was not expected to win at all and then bang came the ‘racial abuse’ fiasco from the other members of the show. It all sent her ratings sky high and eventually she won the show, which is certainly a proud moment for her and all Indians too. Thereafter she has never looked, international modeling assignments, appearing on Broadway theater shows, and giving interviews to international magazines like Hello and Ok! Meeting the Queen of England, the list goes on. She has really made us proud and we hope the dream never ends for this Bollywood beauty.
