Bollywood Actress Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor was born on June 9th 1985 in Mumbai, India. She is the daughter of famous Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor and her mother’s name is Sunita Kapoor. Boney Kapoor, the highly successful Bollywood film producer is her uncle. Sonam did her primary education from Arya Vidya Mandir, thereafter she got addmission to the United World College of South East Asia under the stream of International Baccalaureate. For further education she choose the University of Mumbai where she graduated in Political Science & Economics. Her interests are not just limited to polictical science but they are far beyond that, she has received expert training in Latin dance and Classical dance forms.
Before singing under the doted line for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s new movie ‘Saawariya’ she assisted Sanjay in the making of the critically aaclaimed and widely revered movie ‘Black’. It was on the sets of the very film ‘Black’ that Sanjay offered Sonam to be casted as the lead actress for his new movie. Sonam, it is said had no clue what so ever that this top Bollywood director would suddenly approach her for a movie. This because she was completely overweight and this was as a result she living abroad for studies. Sonam is known to have quite a carving for good food cusines. During those time while assisting Sanjay, Sonam’s weight in kilogram was around the 90Kg mark and that means she was clearly over weight and if she ever any aspirations of being an actress she would have to cut done on her wait rather drastically. Sonam’s mom Mrs. Kapoor is a fitness freak and she helped sonam reduce an astonishing 30Kgs.
Once she was done with the weight reducing process she knew that she was finally going to realize her childhood wish of becoming a Bollywood star. Sanjay Leela Bansali was so impressed with her mental strenght of shedding her excess fats that once he started to see the improvements in her wieght loss progess his conviction of her for his new movie grew by the day. Surely Sonam would have been excited as well, after all Sanjay is one of Bollywood’s most talented directors and to have the chance to be casted in his movie is prestigous at any time of one’s career and when it’s your debut movie well some can get jittery and others marvel at their luck. Saawariya was the first Bollywood movie to be produced and distributed by a major Hollywood production company – Sony Pictures.
The movie was released on Diwali festival weekend and it open to mixed responses. The opening weekend was a massive opening for the movie mainly due to the huge publicity the movie received in the weeks preceeding the release. In many parts of the country it got rave reviews and bumper openings. But that’s where the turn happened. After initial screenings the auidences didn’t find the story appealing at all. They liked Sonam’s and Ranbir Kapoor's performances, and both of them didn’t appear as if they were novice as naïve at the same time, they looked much at peace with their work and look very comfortable infront of the camera. What people disliked was there was no script to bind the auidence. The box office collections started to diminish quickly and the end result was a no show by the showman director Sanjay.
But we can easily say her’s and Ranbir’s work was much apperciated and they are the new stars of a new generation. They will have to work harder and select better scripts and just not sign because of whom the director or producers are. Auidences come to watch actors act not to see who the producer or director is. Sonam has since them been rumored to have signed to Rakesh Mehra’s next Bollywood production titled ‘Dilli 6’. Hope she has better luck next time. With time she will find success, sooner or later that depends on her ability to judge roles and script and make the right kinds of decisions.
