Bollywood Actress Sridevi
Sridevi was born on August 13th 1963 and her birthplace is Sivakasi in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Tamil is her mother tongue. Sridevi’s father’s name was Ayyapan and her mother’s name was Rajeswari. Sri as her friends fondly called her was known to be very close to her mother. Sridevi has a younger brother Satish and also younger sister Srilatha. Sridevi married film producer Boney Kapoor on June 2, 1996. Sanjay Kapoor and Anil Kapoor so become her brother-in-law as they both are the younger brother of Boney Kapoor. Once she was asked that did she have any regrets at not being able to complete her education because she took a plunge into her acting career very early in life, to that she told that everyone cannot have everything thing in life, you lose some and you win some. She also said that if she were educated then she would have been doing a different job and not acting. Because she didn’t study completely she got into acting. Sridevi began her acting career at the tender age of 4 when she as a child artist performed in the Tamil film - Kandhan Karunai (1967). Then when she was 16 she starting appearing as an adult in numerous Tamil, Malayalam and Telegu films. In 1976 she tasted her first major success as an actress. Moondru Mudhchu was the turning chapter in her acting career, she was casted opposite RajniKanth and Kamal Haasan. This movie proved to be a highlight in all of these actors careers. Thereafter it was no looking back, Sridevi was hot property in south films and producers just lined up to sign her for their projects. From 1979 to 1983 she was the number one Tamil actress. In the year 1978 her first Hindi movie was released, Solva Saawan, the movie didn’t do well. Many South Indian actress come to Bollywood with dreams of making it big and a few have but most have to return heart broken because of their south Indian accent. But with her 2nd release – Himmatwala starring a then very young Jeetendra. The movie proved to be a smash hit and opened doors for her to continue her career in Bollywood. Then she delivered a knockout punch, in what is considered to be a pathbreaking drama movie, Sadma earned her rave reviews from all cornerns. Critics went ga ga over her performance and many even today call her performance the best ever of her times. Then came a slue of hits Nagina, Tohfa, Mr. India, then Chandni directed by Yash Chopra and also Chaalbaaz(co-starring with Rajnikanth, Sunny Deol, Anupam Kher, Shakti Kapoor, Aruna Irani, Kader Khan and more). Nagina made her even more famous, the story line was the Sridevi is a snake who can turn into a beautiful female, her famous snake dance sequence had the entire nation chanting the tunes. Next was Mr. India, where in Anil Kapoor (her now brother-in-law) has a wirst watch that could make him invisible. Sridevi was a reporter and her bubbly acting and comic sense and timing got her millions of fans and girls wanted to be like her. Satish Kaushik also played a major role in this film who care for children of Anil Kapoor and Amrish Puri is the villian who wanted that watch. Then came the evergreen movie Chandni directed by Yash Chopra. This movie clearly eastalished her as the leading actresses of her time, she as capable of doing comic, drama and action which she did in Chaalbaaz all with the same ease. Chaalbaaz won Sridevi her first Filmfare award for Best Actress in a Hindi film. Then came the most beautiful movie that of her career – Lamhe. The film release in 1991 was directed by Yash Chopra and her co-star was Anil Kapoor. This movie turned out to be a modern day path-breaking romantic classic in Bollywood. Her role fetched her a 2nd Filmfare award for Best Actress. After the failure of the multi million rupee Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja she planned quit Bollywood and to get settled in life. She married Bollywood film producer Boney Kapoor and have two daughters from that relationship. Numerous sources claim that Sridevi had a relationship with actor Mithun Chakraborty from 1986 to 1987, and ended the relationship when she found out that he had not divorced his wife, Yogita Bali.
