Sunil Dutt was born on June 6, 1930 in a village of Jhelum in British India. He was an Indian Bollywood actor, producer, director, social crusader and politician. The name of her spouse was Nargis Dutt who was also a film actress. After partition of India his family moved to India and settled on the bank of a river. Sunil Dutt has to work hard from the early days of his life. Then his family moved to Mumbai. There he joined a college, Jai Hind an took up a job. Sunil Dutt remained minister of Youth Affairs and Sports in the Manmohan Singh government. He worked well to promote sports and their standard. His son Sanjay Dutt is also a Bollywood star. In 1984 he joined Congress party and was elected to Parliament.

Career

Sunil Dutt started his career from Radio and he was very popular announcer of Radio Ceylon which was the oldest radio station in South Asia. He started his career as an actor in 1955 by performing in a Hindi film, Railway Platform. He married his co-star Nargis on March 11,1958. Sunil and Nargis acted in Mother India and in a fire incident at set he saved Nargis so she fell in love with him. Sanjay Dutt, a successful Bollywood film star is his son and Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt are his two daughters. Sunil Dutt was one of the successful film stars of Bollywood in 1950. He performed in many films such as Sadhna, Sujata, Mujhe Jeene Do, Khandaan and Padosa. Sunil Dutt acted and directed a film Yaadein in which he created many records. In 1968 he produced a film Man Ka Meet in which his brother Som Dutt performed. In 1971 he produced and directed a film, Reshma Aur Shera which was a failure. Then he came back and performed in hit films included Pran Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye, Nagin, Jaani Dushman and Shaan. In his filmi career Sunil Dutt acted in 102 films and directed 6 films.

His son Sanjay started his career with a film Rocky which was a success. Shortly after the release of this film his wife, Nargis died of a cancer. He setup Nargis Dutt Foundation to cure cancer patients. Then he took part in politics and appointed as Sheriff of Mumbai in 1982 for one year. He left film industry in early 1990 to turn to politics. Parampara and Kshatriya were his last movies which he released. In early 1990 his political career suffered when he tried to free his son from Jail. Sanjay Dutt was arrested in Hindu Muslim clashes in Mumbai. He won Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995 for his contribution.

Before his death he returned to films and performed in superhit film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S..with his son Sanjay. Before it he worked with his son in Rocky but it was the first film in which they performed together in some scenes.He died of a heart attack on May 25, 2005 at his residence in Mumbai. His seat in parliament was won by her daughter Pirya Dutt after his father’s death.

Awards

Sunil Dutt performed well not only in acting but in politics and social life. Sunil Dut devoted a considerable part of his life for Bollywood. In the journey of his profession he won many awards and honors. He won Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1963 for Mujhe Jeene Do, Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1965 for Khandaan, BFJA Best Actor for Milan in 1967, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995, Star Screen Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998 and Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2001.

Sunil Dutt won Padma Shri award from the Government of India. He also received "Glory of India Award" by IIAF. Filmography Sunil Dutt’s debut film was Railway Platform and this journey ended with many ups and donws in Bollywood. Dutt was one of the major stars of Bollywood in the late 1950s and 1960s and continued to star in many successful films which included Sadhna (1958), Sujata (1959), Mujhe Jeene Do (1963, Khandaan (1965)and Padosan (1967). His collaboration with B.R. Chopra proved to be successful in films such as Gumraah (1963), Waqt (1965) and Hamraaz (1967).

He created a record of sorts by directing and starring in the unique film Yaadein (1964) in which he was the only actor in the cast. He later turned producer of the 1968 film Man Ka Meet which introduced his brother Som Dutt who was unsuccessful in films. In 1971 he produced, directed and starred in the big-budget period romantic film Reshma Aur Shera (1971) which was a huge failure at the box office.

He bounced back when he continued to star in hit films which included Pran Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye (1974), Nagin (1976), Jaani Dushman (1979) and Shaan (1980).
