Bollywood movie Veer Zaara
Veer-Zaara happens to be an epic romance Bollywood movie from the stable of Yash Raj Films. It was released on November 12th 2004. It is the last movie to have been directed by Indian cinema legend Yash Chopra(father of Uday Chopra and Aditya Chopra) and was produced by Yash Chopra himself. The movie starred Bollywood biggies like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Hema Malini, Rani Mukerji and Divya Dutta. This movie turned out to be the biggest box office hit of 2004. Veer-Zaara was nominated in 15 categories for the Filmfare Award. The movie opened in theatres on 12 November 2004. It grossed Rs.45,00,00,000. In its first week it grossed Rs.17,00,00,000. The film was a success not only in India and Pakistan, but overseas, notably in US, United Kingdom, South Africa, France & Germany.
Squadron Leader Veer Pratap Singh (Shahrukh Khan) is a rescue pilot with the Indian Air Force, who risks his own life to save the lives of others. One day, on duty, he comes across a stranded Zaara Haayat Khan (Preity Zinta)... a girl from Pakistan. Zaara, a carefree, sprightly girl has come to India to fulfill her surrogate mother's dying wish. Her grandmother (Zohra Sehgal) wanted her ashes to be scattered in the Sikh city of Kiritpur, where there happens to be a river where her ancestor’s ashes too were immersed. She meets with a bus accident leaving her stranded in a foreign land. Veer Pratap Singh helps Zaara Haayat Khan in her endeavor to immerse her grandmother’s ashes as per rituals of the land. Once the rituals are complete Veer make a request to Zaara to visit his home town in Punjab for a day with him before leaving for Pakistan.
Upon reaching Veer’s village she is warmly received and Veer’s father (Amitabh Bachchan) and mother (Hema Malini) and after a few talks Veer get attracted to Zaara and starting loving her. But little does he know that Zaara is already enguaged. When her stay is over Veer take her to the railway station from where she can go back to Pakistan and he confesses his unending love for her here and also meets Raza (Manoj Bajpai). Upon meeting does he realize that this man is Zaara’s fiancee.
Veer let her return to her life in Pakistan. Zaara on the other hand upon reaching Pakistan realizes that Veer is the person she loves and want to get married to. She tell her best friend Shabbo (Divya Dutta) to call Veer in India and tell him that she loves him too and want him to come to Pakistan to take her back to India. Upon receving the news Veer leaves his post in the Indian Air Force and reaches Pakistan. Veer reaches Pakistan but Zaara’s mother pleads him to leave as her husband who happens to be a highly influential politician in Pakistan shall die if he gets to know all this. Veer decides to leave Pakistan and forget Zaara. But Raza cannot take this humiliation that a man loves his fiancee so much to come all the way. He get him wrongly famed as a spy of the Indian government and is sent to jail on the basis of a false passport where his name is as Captain Rajesh. Time goes by and everytime turns overtly on its head, Veer is behind the bars and Zaara gets married to Raza.
22 years later a fresh laywer is given the case of Veer, Saamiya Siddiqui (Rani Mukerji). She continuously keep meeting Veer to behind the actual story. Many hearing pass and it looks as though Veer shall not get justice and will have to spend his entire life behind the bars. Then Saamiya decides to go to Veer’s native town in Punjab, India. Upon reaching the old house she finds two elderly ladies playing around with kids and gets introduced to both ladies as Zaara Haayat Khan & Shabbo. She has her evidence and takes them back to Pakistan to prove Veer’s innocence. The judge releases Veer from prison and apologizes on behalf of Pakistan. Veer-Zaara is an extra-ordinary story and is also a Love Legend. This is a saga of love, separation, courage and sacrifice. A love that is divine, a love that is whole-hearted, a love that is completely consuming, a love that grows with separation, deepens with sacrifice
