Bollywood Actress Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan was born on the 1st of January 1982 in the small town of Ottapalam in Kerala, India. She grew up in Mumbai and also studied at various education centers of excellence all located in Mumbai. Her father’s name is Mr. P.R. Balan and he works at the ETC satellite channel as its Vice President. Her mother is a housewife. Vidya Balan first attended the St. Anthony’s Girls High School in Chembur. Thereafter she got enrolled into the famous St. Xavier’s College where she studied sociology and graduated in it too. She also attended the University of Mumbai.

When she started her acting career she was first cast in the Malayalam film titled ‘Chakram’. In her very first movie she was paired along side south superstar Mohanlal. But as fate had it, the movie itself got cancelled. Thereafter she got the chance to act in the Tamil movie ‘Run’ but fate again showed its ugly head and Vidya got replaced by another actress, Meera Jasmine. The reasons for dropping her were not made public. But then it became like a cruse on her when for the 2nd time in succession she was shown the doors from a Tamil film. This time there was a talk of her being not able to perform to a good level of acting in front of the camera and ultimately she had to make way for another actress in the form of Trisha Krishnan.

Not able to find her feet in the tough and competitive world of movies she took a plunge into television. Starting from the year 1998, Vidya Balan appeared in scores of advertisements and most of those had the now famous Bollywood director Pradeep Sarkar as the director for those ads as well. She continued to move her way up and then started appearing in top notch music videos, then subsequently in videos with lead singers and bands for example Shubha Mudgal, Euphoria and even with the legendary Pankaj Udhas. One of her famous roles in television was appearing as Radhika Mathur in the out and out comedy serial of ‘Hum Paanch’, but there too she acted in the earlier episodes only and later replaced by Amita Nangia towards the end of the first season.

But things were about to change again for this young sexy actress and this time for the better. Through all her hard work and perseverance she managed to land a role in a Bengali film titled ‘Bhalo Theko’. That broke the jinx and Vidya was to make her Bollywood debut soon. Vidya made her Bollywood debut in 2003 in the Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Parineeta’ produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by none other than Pradeep Sarkar, the same man who directed her in various ad films. The movie and her acting both got critical acclaim and thus started the journey of a talented actress. Vidya truly deserved very bit of the success and acclaim that came her way. After the twin success of her Bengali as well as Bollywood movies, the director who showed her the door out of what would have been her 2nd Tamil movie wanted to cast her in his latest venture but Vidya shunned the offer.

Thereafter she has been able to carve a niche for herself with her versatile acting abilities and her charming smile. Her Bollywood career turned a leaf when she starred in the super hit Bollywood movie ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’(directed by Rajkumar Hirani) opposite Sanjay Dutt and co-starring with Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani. The movie left a lasting impression on the masses and she gained new ground in Bollywood. Thereafter she has appeared in quite a few Bollywood movies and has today certainly attained the status of being one of the leading ladies of Bollywood and movies like Guru, Eklavya, Salaam-e-Ishq, Heyy Babyy and of course Bhool Bhulaiyaa have enhanced her reputation even further.
