Bollywood Actor Vinod Khanna
Vinod Khanna was born on 6th October, 1946 in the city of Peshawar which then part of Unified India. At the time of independence his faimly moved to India. His schooling days where spent first at St. Xaviers High School, Bombay and thereafter he got admission into Delhi Public School. For a couple of years he joined the Lord Banes High School, Devlali. Since his schooling days he was a very athletic person, his interests ranged from tennis, cricket and soccer. When he was 13 years old and studying at Delhi Public School, one of his school’s teachers persuaded him to play a role in the school drama. Thereafter his liking for acting grew. When he reached his college life he wanted to study science but since his father was a businessman he wanted his son to take up commerce. In the college he had a large circle of about 30 friends and all of them would party together to the tunes of the famous British band ‘Beatles’. At one such similar party he got noticed and offered a role to star in a Sunil Dutt movie. He liked the idea and grabbed that opportunity with both hands. Though he had to play a bad man’s role he did the movie and to the astonishment of all, he as a newcomer was recognized more than the lead role actor. His father had reservation of him acting as well but this time Vinod Khanna was able to get his dad’s support. Through the initial phase of his career Vinod Khanna had to work endlessly to get noticed. But his hard work did not go unnoticed & things started to work in his favour, though he was cast in negative roles in films like Reshma Aur Shera, Mera Gaon Mera Desh & Mere Apne he had enough scope in these movies too to prove his metal. And that’s exactly what he did; all his performances were starting to get appreciated. As his screen presence started to grow his macho body, smart looks and great acting abilities started getting highlighted even more enchantingly. Producers then wanted to cast him as a hero in their films to which Vinod Khanna was more than happy to do. Thereafter his career never looked back, he was there among the best of the A-list Bollywood actors and in a few years time some of his peers were feeling threatened by his presence. He acted in many Bollywood movies along side Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Films like Mugaddar Ka Sikandar, Parvarish, Amar Akbar Antony, Khoon Pasina & Hera Pheri, were all super hits and established him as one of the leading actors of his time and his only rival at the peak of his career was Amitabh Bachchan. Then suddenly at the same peak when film offers were at his door step he declared his retirement from Bollywood. He went away from Bollywood to find inner peace and tranquility. In 1979 he shifted to Pune to be in the company of Acharya Rajnish at his ashram. All members of the Bollywood film fraternity were taken aback by his decision. In 1985 he returned to Bollywood and resumed his acting career. When he left Bollywood in 1979 he has completed the filming of ‘Qurbani’ along side Bollywood’s original cowboy and heartthrob Feroz Khan and Zeenat Aman. When released the movie set the box office on fire and his and Mr. Khan acting was so wonderful and their portrayal of living on the words of a friend has made it a very keenly watched movie today too. Now his son Akshay Khanna is active in bollywood as actor replacing his father. In 1988 however he acted in the movie Dayavan along with sexy actress Madhuri Dixit. The film had a famous kissing scene on bed between Madhuri and Vinod Khanna. Feroz Khan also acted in this movie but Vinod Khanna got the pleasure of kisses from Madhuri, the sexy actress. Dayavan is a 1988 Hindi remake of the very famous Tamil movie called Nayagan, directed by Mani Ratnam, which starred Kamal Haasan. Here is the video of dayavan movie
Vinod Khanna has been twice the Member of Parliament and was elected from the constituency of Gurdaspur in Punjab. He was the Minister of State for External Affairs 2003.
